Well- at least they did stick with another local brand. Valleydale (out of Salem VA) ain't quite a JJ, but when I first saw the story I was scared they were going to Oscar Mayer, Ball Park or other brand of brown hotdog... You just can't live in the South and not eat red hotdogs!

Messing with a Martinsville Speedway hotdog is like messing with a South Boston Speedway baloney burger- you just don't do it! (SBS baloney burgers are sliced 3/8" thick right off the stick of bologna just before they slash the edges and drop it on the grill. Add mustard, chili and onions, and cole slaw if you like it, on a properly toasted hamburger bun and walla! )

The 60s Valleydale commercial...

And the SBS baloney burger!

Enjoy!

Those dogs are definitely an institution. I plan to be there on the 29th unless the weather outlook isn't good - I'll give the new ones a try (or three).

the red color is just a food color but back in 1920's franks were actually red from the salt peter combination used back then which is outlawed now
