Mopar brake light switch
Mopar brake light switch
Hi everyone.
I know there are a few Mopar guys here so I thought I'd give this question a whirl here.
I've got a 68 Valiant. Brake lights stay on, pedal seems normal but there's a gap of an inch or more between the switch and the pedal. If I pull the pedal up to contact the switch, thus turning out the brake lights, the pedal is unusually high. The switch does not seem like it's abnormally adjusted.
I've seen this problem before and it appears as though it just, happens. All I can get out of the Valiant forum is, get the correct brake rod. Well, I have the correct brake rod, it's the one that came with the car. Everything is factory original. And again, if I got a longer rod it puts the pedal up under the dash almost.
My other Valiant had this problem in the past. My Grandmother took the car to some gas station hack and his solution was to saw off the switch mount and attach it with vice grips.
The brakes function normally. They are non-power 9 inch drums.
So have things worn so much over time that this gap is created, or has something in the system broke? Does the brake light switch back out of its bracket?
Thanks much everyone. In a thinly veiled ***-kissing move I will say that I've asked a lot of non-Oldsmobile questions here over the years and have always gotten great information.
Edit: At least this posted at 4:42 this afternoon.

Taking me back a long time. IIRC, the mopar switch has about 2 inches of thread. The retaining nut is stamped steel. Seems I remember something about it backing off or slipping on the threads. If I am wrong, excuse the interruption.
