Even though they are not street legal, what cops are gonna chase you?

when I was still in my early twenty's and still lived with my parents we lived on the Fox river and had snowmobiles. When the rivers and lakes would freeze you could go all over the place bar hopping to stay warm.I also saw a few very bad accidents with guys hitting piers at nite and one guy died who hit ours. Like anythig ells it's all fun and games till someone dies. Now days the cops have sleds, (and boats in the summer) not like the 70's and early 80's when anything goes.

......Concentrated methane from sheep farts blowing holes in the ozone layer above New Zealand has created the weird weather patterns we're seeing. They were probably behind last night's cyclone as well...and your blizzards We need to keep an eye on 'em
Oh God Colonel.... you just crack me up, lol!!!

Green & pleasant land.
Over here 3 inches of snow means the entire transport infrastructure grinds to a halt.
Once in my 55 years it reached 100 degrees (2004).
Once the sea froze (1963).
We had hurricane force winds in 1987 - first time since 1703.
Sometimes the sun shines a little, sometimes it rains a little yet the British are world leaders at bitching about the weather.
Makes $8 per gallon gas almost tolerable.
I hope you have a big thaw before March.

Just for fun! Every night I hear about all the snow back home, what has broken, and all the shoveling that is waiting for me.So I go to the beach while I can! Most of the good things are temporary. Good luck to all of those that are stuck in that mess. ---bil

Had my son call me from northern part of massachusetts and he says they are at 81' so far this winter,,,,,and more on the way Saturday. I will take the snow over -20 with -45 windchill like it is in northern MN.
Time for spring training in Florida

Dude is that right? 81' or is it 82"? ' is feet. " is inches. I agree with you over the temps. I once visited a friend in Duluth, MN on Dec 31st '06. Temps got that low you are referring to. I mistakenly let his mom drive my new '06 Grand Caravan, she backed into driveway on an incline, wasn't paying attention to cement walls adjoining garage nor the mirrors that showed those walls and cracked the rear bumper of the van. On top of that claimed she didn't owe me for damage cause I let her borrow van. But the temps were very memorable, especially New Years Day when I stood on the edge of land right next to Lake Superior. I can almost feel that cold wind now!

Yup correction!! I meant to write 81 inches. He sent me a photo on his facebook of a snow pile...now get this it is 5 yes 5 stories high!!! The weather channel interviewed home owners who live near the pile and they are not happy. It is going to take a long time to melt. After the storm at the end of last month he said if it wasn't for the antenna on his car he would not have found it in the parking lot. Oh give me spring and a few car shows!!!

Another thing you could do, did this when we were young and strong, get yourself on old car hood. Flip the hood upside down, get a 30' rope should do tie her to a truck, even a sled may do. Get a few of your friends on the back of that hood and get some one to drive. Hang on and look out for stop signs and if you see the cops don't stop. For some reason they get really pissed at you.

A TRUE MESS for sure! Being a Chicago Native I recall why I joined the Army and moved away from there! (Blizzard of '79 I remember but from these pics it looks worse this time for sure!)
It's like Jimmy Kimmel said on his TV Show the other night; from space and Sat. photos he said "the entire MidWest basically looked like Charlie Sheen's Coffee Table!!" LOL!
Hang in there all, Kansas City didn't fare much better! We're ALL ready for Spring!

"Global warming" is an accurate term, though it is misleading. As global temperatures increase, the effect is an increase in the variability of weather patterns. Think bigger storms, i.e. Australia flooding and record hurricanes, record highs and record lows, along with increased moisture - rain, snow, etc.
A better term would be simply "climate change", and is simply undisputed by reputable scientists worldwide. A fair example of scientific concern can be read at:
climateprogress.org/
The site reproduces a letter from the NAS to Congress, in its entirety.
That said, the storms remind me of a few winters in Iowa and Montana when I was growing up. Not across such a vast territory, though.

The U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) was created by Abraham Lincoln and chartered by Congress in 1863 for the express purpose of obtaining objective expert advice on a range of complex scientific and technological issues. Its international reputation for integrity is unparalleled. This spring, at the request of Congress, the NAS issued a series of comprehensive reports on climate change that were unambiguous.

Or you could fasten one of those yay BIG orange flags with the orange poles that we all had on our Schwinn bicycles from the '70's onto your car antenna. You'll for sure see that standing out against the white snow!

I already said more than I intended to and I won't comment again but everyone needs to wake up on this because if they get what they want this will be the final nail in the coffin on our economy.

Here's a short timeline dealing with the history of the science related to climate change which would tend to indicate differently, as it follows important events back to the early 1800s, well before Cap and Trade was envisioned...
http://www.livescience.com/environme...e_history.html
A somewhat fuller account can be found on wikipedia, which while not the ideal research site is generally a good source of info that can be independently verified.
Bottom line, I don't care in the least about the politics, but current science - as opposed to funded 'research' - is in essentially total agreement as to the mechanisms and results of global warming, and that we are seeing those results occur in real time.
Regardless of the source of global warming (man-made or otherwise), it would be in our best interests to find ways of reducing the increase of greenhouse gases that are at the root of the problem.
Here's a NYT article that presents some of the issues in a reasonably fair manner.

It sounds like the weather is getting worse than it used to be, but I differ on that opinion. The news today gets around so fast and the technology is some much greater than it was years ago, then to me I think we just know more of what is going on in the world today. It is sad to see all this crap happing, but we want news and we have it

Texas does not escape the white stuff either.
Apparently when the NWS says “a light dusting of snow”, they really mean 4” and more to come… Bring in the snowplows!
But wait - Dallas, TX has no snowplows...
Another work from home day.
These pics look a bit like last year's except the streets are filled this time.
Another 1-2" is on the way, too!
Those Super Bowl visitors are getting a surprise. Delayed flights, icy roads, etc...
I can predict a bunch of wrecked rental cars by time its all over...
Game day is supposed to be better - lets see.

I made it in and looks like its a miricle we are shutting it down. One of our techs already wrecked a customers car into a new stock unit on our roof. I went upstairs to look and the guy in front of me almost fell. Its a solid sheet of ice still under 5" of snow. As he slipped I said "Be careful!" The words were not even out of my mouth and I was laying on my back.

Took Juju to DFW airport yesterday, she go on a plane to visit daughter/son-in-lay/Grandson in Ft Lauderdale - she called from Dania Beach when she got there, and said, "It's 78, sunny, and W-A-R-M"! Took me an hour to drive back home, and that's BEFORE the snow hit last night! I'm tired of this stuff! Looks to be about 6" on the ground, and snowing again in East Dallas! Oh, well, needed to paint the basement, anyway!!!!!! LOL! Cabin fever ain't the word! Forgot to mention that I stepped out of the little Escort SW, took one step, and fell........hard! Dum........without the b!

I wish I had a sled these days as I have a cabin on an island about 20 miles from here. It would be a good run from here but maybe if I win money ( HA )

i'm going to bite my tongue to keep this from becoming a political thread but there are hundreds of scientists that know that man made climate change is the one of the biggests hoaxes in the history of mankind. They don't get the same plublicity because it does not fit the agenda at hand. Climate change is about cap and trade period. There are hundreds of billions at stake that will come out of all of our pockets.

I'm with ya on that one, lol! I've had enough already. A lot of towns are running out of money for snow removal - they've already went over their budgets because we had such an early winter. Now they're trying to figure out where to put all the snow when they scoop it up with the front end loaders to get it off the street corners and out of parking lots and such.
Rob, you really got it again didn't ya?? You have such a pretty yard!

No doubt. I have cabin fever so bad, my motivation level for anything has almost hit 0.
We only got 5" last night and today (vs 10" last year) and it stopped. Supposed to hit freezing today but I do not think it will make it.
Crap - guess what is falling here AGAIN!

Well the guys in Tulsa are back at work. I called a couple in Houston and they are telling me about rolling black outs? You don't want that if it's cold outside. I heard that the other night we were warmer than Phoenix.

My mom got two BO's each about 30 minutes. Not too bad but she was sick of resetting clocks.
Glad i stayed home.
Kids have had 4 consecutive days off from school - they will be paying for these come summer vacation.
