Lost a great friend

One of my best friends committed suicide in January. I had known this guy over forty years. He actually got me into Oldsmobiles because he had a 1966 F85 442. Red with Red bench seat interior. I drove the car on many occasions, worked on it, put a Mondello built 455 in it for him. Found out today he left an IRA worth quite a lot of money and I'm the sole beneficiary. Imagine my surprise when his widow called me with the news.

So sorry to hear about your friend. The older we get it seems like the more family and friends we have to say goodby to.

Been thru it more times than I care to remember and I know that, at 65, it's only going to get more frequent.

Sorry for the loss especially given the circumstances. But sounds like your friendship mattered to him.

Sorry to hear that news. It's hard enough to lose friends and family from natural causes but it's always harder when it's an unexpected loss.

Been thru this as well. I had a young employee in his 20's working at my recoding studio who moved on to a different line of work. He was a big guy but mostly a gentle giant. He had a 4th-gen Camaro he was rebuilding but got into a dispute with the mechanic/machine shop doing the engine work. The shop over-charged him and then took possession of his car for non-payment (pretty shitty thing to do). He became infatuated with the reality TV shows like Dog the Bounty hunter, so he got his bounty hunter/fugitive recovery license. He was involved in a fugitive recovery where several children were injured in the shoot-out and were removed from their families as a result of the arrests. He never got over the trauma of that experience coupled with the loss of his car just put him into a tailspin from which he never recovered. So sorry for your loss but you should keep tabs on his widow, she will need lots of support to get thru this!

Always super hard to see these threads. I (as many of us) have also lost too many. I lost a fiancee in 2009 suddenly in a car accident. We were to be married in the next six months. Tore me up for awhile. World keeps turning though. So so sorry to hear your news. Especially tough when people decide to check themselves out. Thoughts and Prayers 🙏

We all need to be involved with those around us, not just check in.

No, he wasn't. Not a car club type of guy. He bought the 66 new when he was stationed at Redstone Arsenal while in the Army. We met in 71 when both of our wives were members of a spa in Richardson.
