Looking at a Vette tonight. I lost my mind

I joined a Facebook group for Chevettes and they are as crazy as we are about Oldsmobiles. They are telling me that these have gone up in price substantially in the past three years. A couple of them are saying super clean like new ones will sell as high as $10K! They are even restoring them on there. Maybe I am not as nuts as I thought I was. I thought maybe I over paid for it a little but after seeing them I think I done fine. I plan to drive it as a back and forth to work car while I work on my truck this Summer

Flashbacks to 1983 - my college roommate, as often as possible, when talking to “babes and chicks” (as he referred to them) would bring up the fact that he drove a Vette.
Most had no idea he was talking about a 1981 51hp diesel four-door Chevette.

I used to buy and fix up, then sell old cars in the late 80's -90's. Bought lots of chevettes. Some of them rusted out at the front shock towers, some didn't . I would go to salvage yards and cut out good towers, pop rivit them on to running "Vettes". Worked fine, the weight of car was on springs, the tower were only for the shocks. Also bought some cheap because "the clutch went out" . I knew only the cable was broken, remember driving one home, starting in gear and shifting by feel . Got home and replaced cable. BRINGS BACK LOTS OF MEMORIES!

Well it has been a week and this little thing is doing great. Had a wheel seal on the back leaking but it was simple to change. Other than that I just cleaned it up and drive it. Put almost 200 miles on it and used about 3/8 of a tank. I will check the mileage on the next tank of gas

LOL! I knew this would happen! Now that I finely got a daily driver I found something I want more..... Waited 4 months to find the right car, this Chevette, and now a 2004 Grand Am GT nearly mint pops up for sale near me for a good price. My girl getting here license may end up with the Chevette. Sadly, I think she will end up with the Grand Am

My girlfriend at the time (wife now ) bought a brand new one and talked me into driving cross country in it....so much fun , Did you know you cant turn the heat off on those cars. Found that out driving through Arizona in June .

Holy cow, I had forgotten about that. You can put it over to vent, but it will always have heat coming out. Of course, the majority of Chevettes did not have a/c, either.

I rocked a Chevette as a DD for about a year. Until one night my neighbor knocked on my front door, I opened it, and he said ,"Hey, did you know your car is on fire?" Apparently Vettes can have wiring problems in the engine bay. The firemen had a field day knocking the windows out of it. I had comp coverage on it, got more than I paid for it

Just to complete the thread. I found another lower priced car for a daily drive so decided to sell the Chevette. In the short time I have had it I have learned that the Chevette Community is as great as the Oldsmobile Community. They are very loyal and friendly and have to put there resources together to keep them on the road. Out of 7 million of them made, not many are still around. A 19 year old couple come and picked mine up and were so excited about it. The rust free ones actually sell very well. I got $2600 out of this one and several others said that was a really good deal for it's condition. That young couple that got it just made my day. I sure hope the future is kind to them, they sure impressed me.

I used to get a kick out of visiting my folks in AZ. You see all kinds of vehicles in the Southwest that are long-dead and gone from the Rust Belt. I'd see multiple Chevy LUV trucks each trip, and my Dad owned several different Bronco II's while they were there.

I owned a 1974 C3 (a 454) and 1994 C4. In my opinion the C4 was a way better car than the C3. The C3 is basically on an Impala frame with independent rear wheel suspension. The C4 handled and drove way better than the C3. Granted they are not as good as a C5 but lots better than a C3.

Seen was my 10K mile 03 C5 Z06 , that I sold last Fall. A Z06 Corvette is basically a race car with a vin number. It was an absolute blast to drive even bone stock the performance with an LS3 6 speed tranny is excellent for a 17 year old car. The Zr1, Z06's are becoming a very much a wanted car and the prices have been steady but now are on the rise..as with the C6-C7 Grandsports. beautiful cars to see and own...
