Anyone in readerland hear of the “slab culture” look? Apparently, it’s a popular thing in Texas. I guess the rims are called “swagsta”, elbows, or if that’s too difficult to remember, the technical term is “stupid”.
I’m guessing this would exceed the maximum width allowed by law. And even if it didn’t, I couldn’t image trying to park a car with these ridiculous rims.
Carolina squat, the cambered look, hydraulics, blue dots in tail lights, those stupid crying dolls, wings for downforce on 16 second Honda, there seems to be no limit to ugly or downright dangerous modifications people will do to there rides.
Uh, that was why everybody's wire wheel covers, and even genuine wire wheels, lost their spinners and knockoff hubs in US in 1967. Apparently the spinners and knockoffs were deemed hazardous to pedestrians.
Let's hope this crowd never sees an early James Bond movie where the DB had those retractable tire slicer knockoffs.
It's an urban black Houston rap thing. Big negative camber, and they put really loud speakers in the trunk and drive around with the deck lid up, showing their finished trunk interior blasting rap.
Their thing is to drive slowly and weave back and forth across the road, called "swanging." Referred to in the song Riding Dirty.
It's another one of those "say F U to the The Man by being as obnoxious and disruptive as possible" things that they like to do.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder! But not my eye
Not my eye either in Sweden we have some young people who wants to drive cars who are
looking like s+it , dents everywere and drinking bear. Here is one :
This was for sale for 30.000 us dollar a month ago and Chevy -63 and -64 are popular. Many of this is imported
with no engines or other missing parts. But usually they running well and the car above have fully
restored and painted frame and other parts , also newbuilt engine and transmission . Here is another :
This is really redicoulose.....and I'm a 35year old ...idk....
I should you tube , bashing my car up and driving around....he'll take it to car shows.
Gets 4mil views make some coin....that's were this usa is heading

Old American cars from the 60's are just big and cool.
Every generation knock's the younger one. Its been going on for 2,000 years.
All I know for sure! You haven't seen anything yet. This is nothing compared to what's next! Wait for the next generation! Its just the way it is.
I don't mind hydraulics . I grew up around lowriders and the reason they originally put them on cars was so that when they where cruising and they had the cars slammed when they got pulled over they could raise the car and the cop couldn't fine them. Slabs are stupid for sure tho
Totally agree with Copper. How people express themselves with their rides is their business. We have a few owner operators at my company that run these lug nut covers on their rigs. I don’t get it but it’s their business.
I don't mind youth culture. I do mind things associated with crime and violence.
Yes Koda don´t mind it me either , have been "younger" myself and drinking a good bear and listen to
good music and the v8 sound in american iron It,s very popular by young people to own a car like
these on the video below , and old Chevys are very popular. This "event" (?) below happens every
eastern 10 miles from here and many of the cars come from different places , but no violence or crime
use to happen. Maybe some ticket for some vehicle thing.
I love when a certain age group person tries to slam something new by calling it stupid etc etc. Then you have to remind them how stupid some of their trends where. Like N50 tires and mags with the rear. End 2 feet in the air. 🤣. Pro street in the 80's ( all show no go ) waste of money if you ask me. The whole monochrome deal in the 90's with the early pro touring deal using pastel colors . Ewww . T buckets just a few dumb crap things older crowds did. The older I get the more open minded I have become . I'm not an big wheel guy but some of these big wheel grudge drag cars are amazing and some of them look fantastic. Some like sweet tea some like iced tea unsweetened. Live with it and move on.
I say the same thing about numbers matching cars. Snore.... Boring.....if I wanted stock I'd buy a new car.
Agree with coppercutlass, anyone can find something wrong with the next generation and their artistic view on classic cars. Numbers matching isn't my thing but I respect the person taking time to recreate the past, just like the over sized spinners, not my thing but also not my money, I respect that culture as well.

I am guilty also- old- can't help it.. BUT you are absolutely right. But a lot of this stuff is for entertainment, Here in Michigan i have never seen the Carolina squat, or the wide spinners and the ratted out smashed looking cars from Sweden. But it is fun to look at and wonder.... WHY!????...
I've never bought into the universalist "every generation does something that the older people consider dumb, so you shouldn't judge" schtick. Sounds like something a stoner would say right after "Hate's a strong word, maaaaaaan."
Few of even the professional car customizers are good. I guess it's because I work with OEM new model designers and see how much goes into it that I think this way.
Well I do enjoy edibles but it helps with my anxiety so I can Sleep. I grew up in a pretty rundown part of town . you had to be open because it was a bit of a melting pot. Criticizing someone over their funny looking bike modification would get you beat up. Lol.

I never thought there were any really bad areas of Elgin when I grew up. Times change I understand, neighborhoods change, etc. but by-in-large, I always enjoyed growing up in Elgin. I went to St. Eds but many of my friends went to Elgin HS and Larkin HS. I thought the Fox River Valley was a pretty cool area. We were raised in a neighborhood across from Trout Park (the other side of Route 25).
I actually grew up in a different town ( Glendale heights ) our area had alot of section 8 housing one block down . Heavy gang area. As far as Elgin goes we got people shooting guns almost daily. My area is ok but I'm not afraid of crap like that. The west side is nice I'm right at the edge of where the west side starts.

Well, there's thinking something, then there's saying something about it. I don't recommend unsolicited criticism to someone's face, it WILL get you beat up, as you quite rightly say.

I,m not a fan of ratted out and smashed cars myself but i like patina cars a lot. But pricing on these
smashed cars makes you wonder , you can buy a very nice Oldsmobile convertible much cheaper
than a smashed and ratted out Chevy -63 ,-64 here.
Koda and that's a big chunk of my point. Stupid or not someone built those cars for whatever reason. Again the older I have gotten the more open I have become to the idea that just because I don't like it does not mean I have to bash it. I used to be this way about 4 banger civics when I didn't know better. Once I really started to learn what it takes to make HP and what not I started to appreciate the turbo Civics running 10s with a k series engine swap and boost and I have educated my self on the K series engine particularly as I'm impressed. That old saying if it's too loud you are too old kind of applies.
Those wheels ae called Swangas, they are just as pricey as knock-off Daytons. You can get wire rims more reasonable from True Spoke.
Older B/C body can be called donks, hi-risers, slabs, glass houses, etc. My friend and I make fun but truthfully, it's good the cars aren't in the salvage yard. To each his own
There's a friendly gent that drives a 67 Pontiac Bonneville to the local Cars & Coffee with big 22"+ knock-off rims. I've wanted to pick his brain and ask how he measured to clear his rear fender skirts since I was considering knock-off rims for my 71 98. I haven't seen him in months though.
Have no issues with people being stupid. And doing stupid things to their cars. Don’t care if they wear their pants falling down. It’s your right to be stupid and my right to laugh at you.
The ops picture posted however crossed the line into a unsafe modification. I’ve ridden motorcycles besides semi’s with the pointy extended lugs nuts, and they are threatening. As would be the extended spinners. Both indicate a aggressive mindset which needs curtailed. Have your toys, but keep them away from me.
