Unhappy I think my laptop is toast ...

I think my laptop is junk now. This morning when I got up it was off (it's always on and plugged in) and wet on the bottom. Yesterday was my 19th anniversary so the wife and I had some wine to celebrate. I don't remember falling asleep on the couch or knocking over my glass 'cause I woke up in bed this morning. Geez, didn't really drink that much either!
Bad thing is, that's the computer I use all the time for references, store my Olds project pictures on, you name it.
Guess I'll let it dry out 'til tomorrow and give it a shot. Hopefully the hard drive can be recovered if the laptop is toast.

Congrats to you and the Mrs. on 19 years of marital bliss! Sucks to hear about the laptop though... If it doesn't work after drying out, like you said... hopefully yourself or a puter tech can salvage the hd and/or it's contents. Then again, maybe the laptop needs some time to sober up!

Best of luck with it. Let us know the outcome.

I did manage to find the manual for the laptop on the Dell website for taking it apart. I took it all apart and cleaned everything with an old toothbrush and all the parts were very dry before I put it back together.
I did find one spot that didn't look too good on the motherboard and it's a spot where one of the monitor cable plugs into.
Here's a pic of the bad spot on the motherboard. Didn't find any other spots like this. I think it's toast.

After reassembly it won't turn on.
Hopefully I can find a way to recover my documents folder on the hard drive.

Yeah, that looks pretty bad. A computer guy would be able to salvage data from the hard drive if you need and maybe xfer to another computer.

If I were you I would give the laptop a DUI and put it in jail and not let it out until it gives you the information you want. Be tough don't give in

Thanks for all the congrats on our anniversary and thanks for the sympathy on the death of my laptop to all.
The motherboard is about $155 used on a site I found.
The thing is I paid $550 for the whole thing from Dell a year and a half ago! So, it looks like I'm stuck at the family desktop for a while until I can scrap up some cash for another laptop.
I used the laptop for work too and it has all my CAD drawings, Excel, Word files and pictures of jobs I've done in the past that always get used on upcoming power plant boiler outage repairs for references.
No more wine for the laptop!!!

I did it!

So I figured on getting an adaptor to plug the laptop hard drive into the desk top so I can recover it and when I opened up the desk top VOILA! all the right cables are already in there!
Plugged it in and the hard drive is still good! Everything is right there for me now.

I know this isn't Olds tech and whatnot but I figured I would share.

Here's what I did temporarily to check the drive with SATA cables...
