Going to Iraq

I wanted everyone to know that I am going to Iraq. I will be there for two months training soldiers. I volunteered to go as a representative of the company I work for. I will be going with a co-worker and we will be staying on base and living day-to-day with the soldiers. I just wanted to let everyone know. Sorry I haven't been posting as regularly as I used to. Life and work have just been going 100 mph recently.

Stay safe and in one piece over there. You have my respect for volunteering to go, but I sure wish we'd cut our losses and get hell out from over there, and quit meddling in everybody else's binness.

I think the Swiss have the right idea- armed neutrality, and nobody messes with them.

Training them for what exactly?? I'm curious.....
Living on base won't be an issue. Entertainment however will be.

Troops today are spoiled compared to just 15 years ago when I was overseas.
We didn't have internet, global phones to use daily, Ipod's, laptops, etc.
I had a AT&T phone card when I pulled into port, and we sent snail mail and used 35MM camera's still.

Half of the pictures I took I could never see until the next port getting them developed.

I think he's going over to train THEIR troops not yours. Yours are supposed to be trained before they go. Olds64, if you end up bring your troops home, please tell the Canadians to get out of Afghanistan and come home too. Watch yourself.

Thanks for volunteering to train them, and please do be safe. Be thankful that you have a RJ (real job), also, in these times. Keep in touch.

Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. My co-worker and I arrived in Kuwait City today. To answer the question, we will be teaching US soldiers new FireFinder radar software. It is the same thing I do in the US, we just have to teach the units that are deployed right now. I got the chance to meet Pat a few months ago when I went to Fort Lewis, WA to train soldiers. It is a good job and I like working with men and women in uniform.

It is acutally pretty funny to see our website with ads in Arabic. If I was a computer guru like Omicron I could get a screen capture and post it. Just think Tire Rack ad in Arabic.

Hang tough boss!! One tour was enough for me. I am hosting a car show in May to assist vets when they return home. Don't be affraid to ask for help if an issue arises back home.
I have some good connections and would be ready to help. Vets know how to get it done!!
Good luck!!

OK that's different to what I thought..updating soldiers on new technology, cool. I thought different because the RCMP are in Iraq training (or trying to train) Iraqi's in police work and tacticts. The Canadian army is putting the Afghan army through training as well. From what I read in the papers (if you can believe that) the trainees don't give a shoot. It's a paycheque. No ambition to better their country. Stay safe while you're there and make sure you get your butt back home in one piece. You're a well liked and valued part of this forum. Take care man.

Been a brutal spring. Be safe and get back to apple pie and oldsmobile!!!...Sorry no Chevy in this garage.

Gents, I'm on my way home already. I can't believe it went by so fast. I catch a plane back to the States this evening. It was quite an experience teaching soldiers in country. Please remember to keep our men in women in uniform in your thoughts and prayers. Now I just need to get to work on that Oldsmobile.
