GM = Going Mexican
GM = Going Mexican
Not that I have anything against our neighbors south of the border, but this only goes to prove what a bunch of corporate douchebags are still in charge at GM.

If they're going to come up here to take American jobs anyway, might as well just cut out the middleman and send the jobs right to them!
And I say this as someone who has worked with and has respect and affection for actual individual Mexican people (you can't blame a guy for trying to do better), and as someone who lives in a state with very few "underground" workers from South of the Border, where, gosh darn, actual Americans actually do those jobs some people tell us that Americans won't do, and are grateful to have them.

both my GM and Ford have components built in Mexico, among other places and they were both assembled in Canada, not sure they have anything US in them - parts or labor - well, they do have United States mark-up costs in them that's for sure.
All car companies are "global" companies. That said, if you buy a GM truck it is built in the USA. GM is spending over 500 million in plant upgrades in Michigan alone this year. That provides a lot of jobs right here. They sell vehicles all over the world, so they make parts and cars all over the world. Buy a "foreign" car and the profits go there.

GM , Ford, and Chrysler are all outsourcing for MANY vehicles these days.
The sad thing is the most AMERICAN truck you can buy today is a Toyota Tundra.
That's not a joke either, go look it up.
Profits don't mean anything for 2 reasons.
#1. They're not paying taxes on them in the USA

#2. We earn more money from the real estate, taxes, income taxes, and supporting business revenue of American production facilities.
If SUPPORTING America is your end goal here, you should research what vehicle has the highest % US made content.
That means it's supporting more of the US Manufacturing and local businesses and therefore helps America retain jobs.
Regardless of brand. Profits are not an equation anymore after the bailouts and many freebies that US Govt gave
the auto industry. We're socializing a capitalist corporation in GM.
With that being said, I'd still buy SOME GM vehicles, but nothing made in Mexico or with a very low % US content.
The good news is, I only buy used, so many of these issues don't plague my interests as most parts for all vehicles are made globally.

As of April 2010, the US government had loaned GM around 6 billion dollars with another 55 or so billion taken as company stock. The total percentage of US government ownership at 61%. The retired GM employees who worked directly for GM or a GM owned company that were non-union lost almost everything in benefits as a retired GM employee while the retired union GM employees kept almost all of their benefits intact.

another bizarre tidbit. After the quake in Japan, and it shut down all their manufacturing there, the honda marysville plant outside columbus ohio shut down for 3 days. They retooled, and started making japanese right hand drive cars to full japanese specs. NO cars made there are being sold in the US now. they are ALL being exported back to japan since the production there ground to a halt. I've been wondering if we're now charging them a nice "export fee" to send those back over there. probably not.
