Just pondering tonight the reason floors in cars are called "floorboards" I am an old timer whose first car was a 1929 model and at that time the floors of nearly all cars were made of wood (boards) hence the reason they are called that.
In the early early times Ford required a supplier to ship parts in a certain size wooden box. That box became the floor boards of Model T pickups....... Tedd
This is what my 1928 Pierce-Arrow looked like with the floorboards removed. Three pieces of wood held in place by screws plus a wooden battery box cover. They had thin sheets of asbestos on the back but did a lousy job of keeping the engine heat out. The exhaust pipe also traveled right under the drivers seat.
