“Fixing” severely sun bleached floormats…..

The red rubber floormats in my son’s 92 Yukon are in almost flawless condition. The one flaw, and it’s a big one, they are sun bleached to an almost pink color.

At the Olds Homecoming, a set of rubber floormats to replace the almost destroyed originals for my 69. No rips, tears, just faded, but not nearly as bad as the GMC.

Anyone in readerland have suggestions on how to restore the original color? I have tried various dashboard style cleaners/protectants with no luck. I have seen people use torches to restore the color on hard plastic outdoor chairs, but before resorting to fire I thought I’d pick the brains here first.

Thanks.

Years ago, I found a set of OE floor mats for my 64 98 in a salvage yard Dynamic 88. They were brown but only in fair condition (the vinyl was cracked and faded). Since my 98 had a blue interior I tried to dye them with black shoe polish. Mostly, it just made a mess.

I painted the lower B pillar covers in my 71 98 with Krylon plastic paint. It worked better than my experience with the floor mats but I should have sprayed the covers first with adhesion promoter.

Before you resort to using a torch you might try to paint the worst one with plastic paint and adhesion promoter.

Could try Flood Penetrol. I've used it on plastic and fiberglass with good results. I've not used it on rubber and would look at the ingredients before using it in a passenger compartment. It can be bought at paint stores and most big box stores.
