One of the greatest rock guitar players has passed on. I’ll never forget hearing VH’s first album and thinking that it sounded like nothing before it. My high school 70 442 had his guitar blasting at distorted levels everyday. Probably why my hearing is so bad today. Rock on Eddie. RIP

Amazing guitarist in an Amazing band! Totally forged a new path/swath for Hard Rock and Heavy Metal! First saw them at age 16 April 21, 1979, immediately after VHII was released, but not on the local shelf yet. A little college basketball practice house at University of Colorado, Balch Field House. My FOURTH concert. General Admission tix had us originally about mid-floor, some 100 feet from the band. Before Running with the Devil was over (3rd or 4th song) I was about 15 feet from the stage! DAYUUMMM, what a high energy show!!!! Somebody I never heard of before, Robert Fleischman, opened for them. They were booed off the stage before their set was done. I'll never forget my skin-tight "elephant bell" pants at that show, LOL! RIP Eddie! Thoughts and prayers to all family, friends and fans!!

One of my co workers told me of his passing without any details this afternoon. One of my younger coworkers asked us what he Died of and I said he probably died of awesomeness because nobody can be that awesome and live forever. I checked the net later to confirm my suspicions that it was GD cancer.
when we all finally make it to heaven the concert has to be mind blowing.

I discovered Van Halen with Van Halen II in high school in 79. I immediately went out and got Van Halen I. It was always cranked in my 68 Supreme. I moved on to other bands like GnR in the 80's and in the late 2000's I kind of rediscovered Van Hagar (I love the song Right Now played REALLY loud). I saw Van Halen for the first time in 2012 in Buffalo. Not the greatest show but I'm glad I went. By then Wolfie was playing bass and Alex and Michael Anthony were gone. I also realized how much disliked Davis Lee Roth all over again.....

Sigh. This is another band I never got around to seeing.
I remember hearing many years ago that David Lee Roth was doing a show in Vegas. Who in their right mind would have predicted THAT in the 80s?! I haven’t heard anything about him lately.

I saw the same line up Nov 11, 1978. I loved Sabbath but VH blew them away. A year later VH was the head liner and it was great. It was one of the last festival seating concerts that I saw before going to The Who concert in December. 😢

A very sad day in rock ‘n’ roll history, glad you made it out alive.

November 25-26 1978- in Dallas County Convention Center. Van Halen opened for Black Sabbath. I had tickets for the first night. Van Halen was great and Sabbath rocked hard. A friend had a spare ticket the next night and I jumped at the chance to go again. Van Halen blew Black Sabbath away that second night. Ozzy seemed annoyed when Sabbath hit the stage. He was F-ed upped. Sabbath is in my top 3 all time bands but Van Halen ruled the stage that night. They were done being an opening act only a short time later. I was 16 years old. I still have those ticket stubs. RIP Eddie. Thanks man.
Oh and I drove my 74 H/O to those shows. I bought it with $1800 paper route cash a couple of months before.

The Oz man has a neurological disorder, I read, that makes it a little harder to extemporize as opposed to sing a pre-written song. Plus, a lot of accent is fast, low breath, and not loud; singing clears all that up.

Saw them in Portland, OR around 1987, with Sammy as the lead singer (I always liked him better than David). Fantastic Show!!
