As stated it will be a day remebered in infammy. As will 9-11 where even more people were killed mostly civilian by very few terrorists (19). Even in the modern world today we can never let our guard down. Always remember those killed , and never we hope will such terrible things happen again.
Someday I hope that all peoples realize that we are all ultimately related and we work harder at understanding our differences.It may not happen in my lifetime but I can hope that we continue to strive for it.

I can't remember, but I beleive it's J-Chicago who has an uncle who is still on the Arizona? Please forgvie me if I am mistaken about this.

Thanks for sharing! It's so important to remember what that event did, the men who died there, and what it led to. Both my Grandfathers served in the Pacific, and my Great Uncle was on his way in a transport ship to Schofield Barracks in Hawaii on Dec. 7th. He fought with the 25th through The Solomons, Guadalcanal, New Georgia, Vella Lavella, New Caldonia, and finally Landed on Luzon on and was part of the 25th when they linked up with the 27th at Balete Pass. He was wounded badly 3 times, and was killed 2 weekes before the war officialy ended. I don't allow anyone in my family to forget. Here's a tattoo I have of him on my forearm. I've been to the Arizona Memorial 3 times. I was as moved the last time I went as I was the first.

My dad had a friend who was born in Hawaii and was only 5 or 6 on 12/7/41. He said he remembered being outside, throwing rocks at the planes.

I think an important part of working for peace is to accurately remember the past. There seems to be an effort to change the character of the attack that day from a "sneak" attack to a "surprise" attack. A surprise attack is what happens when you catch your declared enemy off-guard. When you millitarily attack a non-declared enemy, that is called a SNEAK attack.

Pearl Harbor was a SNEAK attack. They didn't want a fight. They wanted to cripple our Pacific fleet and murder as many of our soldiers as possible, without warning. Don't forget. I won't.

The last of the world war II vets are in their late eighties and into their 90's soon they will all just be memories. What a great generation they have been. They remain an inspiration to us all. Not only did they fight for freedom far from our shores they came back and created the middle class for the rest of us to enjoy. Never forget...........................

We went to Golden Corral last night for dinner. I noticed a Virginia "Pearl Harbor Survivor" license plate on a car in the parking lot when we went in so we knew there was someone special in the restaurant.

Turns out it was the old guy's 90th birthday. He was on the ground when the Japanese attacked- had just turned nineteen the day before the attack. We made sure to pay respects for his service and his milestone birthday. It means something to them when you thank them for their service, and there sure aren't many of them left. I have one uncle left who was in the Pacific Theater and he's now 87.

Another interesting thing I remember my dad mentioning. When he was a kid, they used to run a story in Time or Life every year, and they'd publish pictures of the remaining Civil War veterans. At first there were hundreds, and then just a handful, and finally a couple, and then none. Frank Buckles was the last US WWI vet, he just died last year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_Buckles

Todays date is always remembered at our house,dad is a WWII navy vet and still alive and doing well at 86, a close friend Fred Smith who is still with us at 90 is a Pearl Harbor survivor and still gets choked up about the attack after 70 years....Tedd

I have been to the Arizona memorial many times and as always it is a moving experiance. Also, there is Hickam Airforce base in which there are still buildings with chunks of the concrete missing from bullets from the Japanese planes.

My dad was not at Pearl Harbor, he was with the 4th Marines at Corregidor, was taken prisoner along with thousands of other Americans when the
Bataan peninsula fell. He was a pow for 3 1/2 years. He is and was my
HERO. Long live the "Greatest Generation" My flag is flying in their honor.
