Dec. 7th — a date which will live in infamy
Amen. Thank you to every single person that has ever defended the Best Country in The World. To all that have ever served. Thank You.
My Dad and I were talking today. He remembered coming out of church that day (He was seven) and all the church ladies were grouped together. Some were crying. They did not want the kids to know what had happened. Sad day for sure. 🇺🇸

I knew the answer but I asked my 16 year old grandson at dinner tonight if Pearl Harbor was even mentioned at school. Of course it wasn't. I am sure they would be afraid of offending somebody. So lets ignore history. Such bullshit.
My great-uncle on my Mom's side was a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a radio operator on the Arizona and had been on leave the day before and was actually on the Arizona that morning. He was hungry however and took his buddy with him to get some breakfast when the attack happened. The mess hall was turned into a triage center so they were stuck there.
He always had a beer in his hand and I thought him a bit of a nut until my Mom told me about him. I gained a huge amount of respect for Uncle Bill knowing that about him.

God Bless the "service to our country" oriented men, women, and children of that era, also generations before, and after that gave of themselves unselfishly. They tried to lead by example not just a bunch of talk and rhetoric.
Amen

Peace to her. Sorry always to hear loss. I lost my Mom at 62. Tough swallow anytime in life. Keep her with you always. 🙏
I'll never forget when we went there when I was around 14/15. Dad took the audio tour and said it was much more informative than just walking around while you waited for the group to be called onto the ferry to go to the Arizona memorial.
Definitely wanting to go back at some point, and hopefully if we do it can have an impact on my wife as she's not into history (really, most of my generation doesn't care about history) and even better hopefully teach my daughter more than she'll get in school and why we should never forget.

My ship (USS Horne) stopped at Hawaii when I was in the Navy in 1979. Some friends and I went to the memorial. It was the first time I had chills up and down my spine hearing and actually "feeling" a historic, tragic event. For you who were in the Navy on a ship, can you imagine a attack early Sunday morning while in port? I am sorry to hear about your grandson and his school not mentioning Pearl Harbor on the anniversary, Glenn. Geez.....
seeing your post i asked my teen the same....nothing...no dec 7, ww2, pearl harbor, japan, atom bombs, nothing...typical teen why is that important?....I spent the next 20m before work filling in some blanks, who knows if anything stuck ?
