Dallas Texas members meet
I will try and make it. Well, I really want to go but I think I already commited to other plans.. OAN: I think the chicken nuggets I ate from Wendy's the other day is making me sick, and maybe she will not make me go.....Lol
The simplified route of 75 to 35E to 67. Exit 205N which takes you to the park...
Here are the driving directions for those in the Plano/Richardson area:

Well, tomorrow's the day!
Looks like we only have 3 members who will be coming so far. Those who are coming - please PM me your cell numbers and i will reply with mine.
Looks to be close to 100* so bring lots of water / gatoraide. I will try to be there by 10am. Hopefully I will be able to grad a parking space closest to the "blue hole" swimming area on the river, just past the gift shop and the giant fiberglass dinos.
Hope to see more Olds' than just mine!

I talked to Steve and he will call me in the morning on what their plans are. They will try to make it.
The kids would enjoy the dino tracks, AND getting cooled off in the river where the tracks are located. They get free admission, too!

Yeeee Hawwww!!!
I'm baaaackkkk
It would have been so cool to have a caravan of 10 or 15 Olds on the road at the same time. If I leave right now and drive like an absolute maniac for the next 15 hours I.........will prolly get arrested and thrown in the hosegow. ONE of these days!!! I've been to the Western, Central and Eastern US but nevah ta Texas!! Ah gotta git thar one o these yars jus ta see ifn' y'all really got ever thang as big as the great outdoors!
Sides, you guys are all on my bucket list. Y'all know that bucket lists only have important events on it right?
Hey, I got a thought for you to consider Do any of you guys have the tech to set up a web meeting? Doesn't have to be video (cause my gorgeous mug would prolly break the camera
), but I did participate in a kind of web conference call with a lot of members from another site (which will remain nameless after I disagreed with their POV). Everyone got an invite that specified when to log in and what code to use on the web browser...little vague right now on this cause it was back in Feb. Might be easier to do this than drive to a meet although that would be great too. Just thinking about how to connect a lot of us with the convenience of technology and get a better turnout?
Enjoy the outing tomorrow.
ERIC, remind your wife to take the camera!! I'll be looking forward to seeing how things turned out. Wish I could be there with you.

I'm keeping my lunch simple.
A turkey sandwich, a couple hotdogs (they can cook on the car dash), chips, potato salad, and some cookies. This will last me till the late afternoon.
As for drinks, 3 bottles of gatoraide, 3 bottles of water, a bottle of beer and one of ice tea.
They do have BBQ grills if you wish to cook up something for yourselves. I promise I will not snitch anything................
One other thought, bring a cover for your car. If we park under trees, the cars will be tarred and feathered quickly.
I wish - there will be only two in the parking lot... Looks like you are not joining us?
Depends if the bucket is upside down or not, or what is already in it...
Interesting thought but I have no idea. This outing will be getting me back to nature and away from that darn computer.
Life is better when floating down the river on a tube while drinking beer.

Not to worry, the car won't be apart more than it has to be (he said knowing full well it would always be in a state of unrest till the flux capacitor is installed)

Least this way I got a DECENT (didn't say GOOD) excuse. I'll be thinking of you guys lazing about in the river whilst I'm slaving away in the garage....either way it's all gonna be good in the long run.
You should really leave a big imprint of the Oldsmobile rocket in the mud for everyone in the future to see
Me too! Beer and maybe another beer. Supposed to rain here so I might have to dowrn my srorows wtih sitll aotnher beer!!!
Who nedes smaaswitches or fodd? Good tnhig I'm not dirvnig! If you could read that, you definitely are in the top 98% (of something I'm sure)
Well that's just silly.
Who ever heard of installing buckets in a car any other way??? I like having a FULL glass, not an empty one!
I'll see if I can dig up some info on it from my end. Might be a great way to connect a lot of us on this site. Maybe Paul (omicron) might be able to answer some questions if I ask him. I get where you're coming from getting away from the rest of the crazy world. Have fun Rob.

On the other hand if you turn them right side up, they can double as a portapotty.

And send some rain here for next week, will ya?
(Sorry for another Canuck posting in this Texas thread.
But I really enjoyed Dallas when I was there in January. Even met with Aron and a few other Olds people in east Texas! Is that close enough to be allowed to post?)
Allan, all you would need is something like GoToMeeting to set up a web meeting. They have a free 30 day trial so it would be a great way to test it out. I used it for 2 months while working on my final school project. We were happy with it.
If you or anyone sets something up for a web meeting, let me now. I'd try joining in.

Allan I believe if you can accomplish a group chat with yahoo messenger. However, I am the last person on earth with no cell phone and proud of it. So internet service at the park would probably be non-existent for my laptop.
Welcome to the group car designer, we aren't proud, we'll talk to anyone!

uh, welcome to the 2000's ..... we now have mobile technology that doesn't use a chord anymore. You can be the first on your block to own one of these handsome units. Of course you'll need to have your wife carry the accessory pack

What on Earth will they invent next???
BTW, I think the guy on the phone is Carl Malden - check out da shnozz

I don't get it....
Hey Guys!
You made it onto the Mawnin News up here believe it or not!
The story goes: In Texas, they like to do things in a BIG way. So BIG in fact that the TX Allen Eagles Football team opened a new $60 MILLION College football stadium in the Dallas area yesterday. Parents and supporters were interviewed and unanimously agreed the money was a well spent investment for student development. Jeepers, but that's more than some PRO ball arenas spend on building their fields. Any comment from the local DFW guys? I heard they 'sold bonds' to pay for it, but I'm guessing they also had municipal tax grants etc that you paid for to get it built. Never get their money back even with sell out crowds or sponsors. All this when there are massive lay-offs in the teaching profession and cuts to academics? Something wrong here IMO.

One thing is fo shure, they dooooo love's their football in the great state of Texas. They will do anything to fund it including bankrupting it's citizens to pay for it. Ok, I'm off my soapbox.
I know you all have been anticipating with bated breath for news and pictures of the great Texas get together today at the Dinosaur Valley State park. Steve wus'd out, as this was actually put together on his behalf (Steve you will have to show the look of complete sorrow and sincerity for missing this), Rob and I pressed on, with my wife tagging along.
My wife and I arrived at the park around 9:30, it was empty. Rob showed precisely at 10, as planned. I thought he would be older, and taller.
We looked over each others rides, (kind of like 2 dogs sniffing each others tails and walking in circles) Rob has a super clean, cept'n some dead butterfly carcasses pasted to his grill, and the one under his #6 spark plug, 72 vert.
Then the three of sat at one of the picnic tables and shot the breeze for a few hours, ate some lunch, and then ventured off into the Texas wilderness to view the Dino trax. I think Rob shot more pic's than my wife did.
Anyhow it was great getting together with Rob and he really is a great guy. I think Rob would agree, we would not mind doing this again with the possibility of getting more folks together next time.

Ha ha ha, Eric you mean baited breath. Somehow I pictured you as younger with more hair
. I should talk, what little I have left is thin on top and salt n peppa! Actually you look like a guy I used to know - his name is Ray. He retired about 7 years before me with 41 years of perfect attendance at the SAME company! What a terrible work ethic huh???
Already know what Rob looks like from the previous photos. Drove by his house a while ago - he lives in a really nice neighborhood. Needs to finish that bbq shed of his so the meeting can be there next time???
I LOVE the color on your 67. It looks exactly like the color we had on our 67. Is it by any chance code E 'Midnight Blue'?
That's an interesting metaphor to describe how you guys got to know each other, .. I think.. Hey! I thought you guys were gonna go tubing on the river and drink some suds? What happened to that?
I sure hope there will be more showing up at the next TX Rocket Round-Up! Glad your wife took at least 4 pics. Tell her not to be so shy next time

When the wife and I left, he was going to attempt a tubing trip. The water was very shallow and not moving very fast, so I assume when he gets back home he will post some more pic's.
BTW Allan it is bated, baited is after a seafood dinner.

Well I sit corrected. Wouldn't want to tempt you with fresh seafood jambalaya now would I?
Steve the phone never rang, no messages either from this morning.
Allan that's a late model Chebby blue, but for the life of me I can't remember what it's called. The guy who painted it for me asked what color I wanted, and I said dark blue. So he walked me out back and said he had a lot of a color that was on a pickup bed. So I went for it.

Needs some TLC, lower bushings, upper and lower ball joints, new set of HD springs (I want to raise the front a smidge), alignment. The usual old car maintenance stuff, it still has all the original stuff on it.
I am not going to detail it, cause I drive it everyday.

Man, I wish I could've come...then Rob would've been off the hook for being young lol! I really couldn't make it...our trip included a last minute addition, my FIL, and he had to work last night at 7 pm. He was worried if we drove that far out of our way and spent an hour or so there he wouldn't get home in time for work. I tried calling both of you but I never could get a voicemail or anything. I sent Rob a text but I don't know if he got it.
Anyway, it's probably better that I didn't go, I hear Allan had a hit out on us...although I see it failed

Hope your Dad had a safe trip home.A 'hit' out on youse guys?? Naw - I just told the snakes and alligators where you were planning to tube down the river...
I would NEVER put a hit out on you; who would build my 455 when I come down?
Hey Steve, I was just joking on the wuss'd out. I do understand about schedules, work, and family. Seriously, we had a great visit with Rob!!
Roger posted he was coming to Texas soon, I remember him posting a while back but can't find his original post about where he was staying. I was thinking he was coming into the Austin area.
Allan we all know about how long a 1 day job should take, don't we. I'm hoping to start it next weekend, and figure it should go pretty smooth.
Where's Rob, I figured he'd post up some comments, perhaps some additional pic's.

Sorry I'm a bit late to the party. After a full day in the sun and with my tendonitus acting up big time, I took my pain meds this morning and grogged along the whole day. A beer with lunch did not help either...
I am finally waking up now!
Steve, I did get the two messages. That area had hardly any signal for my phone so i could not call or make calls. This explains why I did not have a 'missed call' from Erik when he called me. Not even sure how the messages got through. I have a dumb phone so sending an email would have been too challenging and frustrating. And yes, I do need to fix my VM...
So much for any thought about video conferencing!
Amen to that. And every year it is the same whine and moan that the school districts need more tax $$. Also the districts themselves are competing to see who can have the biggest stadiums and schools. There is a huge complex close to my house and Allen surpassed that. And also every new school has to look like a friggen castle! Many "old" schools are being torn down when they are still not bad.
Needless to say I am not very nice when I get calls asking for donations to the school districts.

Yep. Steve wussed out because he was scared that he would see someone in a speedo!

It was exactly a 2 hour cruise and about 115 miles there. It was a comfortable temp and time just flew by like the passing TX scenery (or lack of it)...
Some good classic rock made it pass even quicker.
And here I expected Eric to be much younger, mainly from his frequent use of the '!' in his posts.
The park was great. About 2x as many tables as parking spaces so that meant no crowd, esp for a holiday weekend. Campsites were full though.
Odd thing was that there were no trash cans - just the dumpsters. I was surprised that the grounds were still so clean!
Erik, we sure hiked a llong way to those tracks, didn't we!
The 'gazola' is complete now. I will buy the smoker this coming spring.
Not too shabby...

Yep, I took the tube down to the river and floated around. The breeze moved me about 1/100 MPH, not the water. Water was very warm - no relief from the heat. Took a 24oz bottle of ale and I sweat it out faster than I could drink it.
That is the sharpest midnight blue color I have ever seen - the metalic flakes and bright chrome is stunning to say the least.
Evactly - you need a sunshot of it!
I might be in oregon that time but you guys feel free to set something up!
As a DD, you should at least repaint the control arms and frame to keep rust away.
When I was floating, a few goofy kids yelled 'alligator' and ran but noone paid any attention. It sounded so hoaky anyway.
My name sounds better for each day I get older!
Yes, we understand. The kids would have enjoyed it for sure.
There's always a 'next time' though.
I had fun, too. It was a bit hot, and I found out that applying sunblock when sweaty makes it not work. So I got some light burns, but not too bad.
I left the park at almost 6pm and took a detour through Grand Prairie to pick up another old Magnavox radio I had found on Craigslist. Could not come home with open space in the car!

The second speaker is in the back.
I got home at about 845 in one piece. Too many total morons were on 75. Was almost hit by a dumb butt phone fiddler.
I have a hundred pictures or so
- I need to sort them and post them tonight or tomorrow.
I am finally waking up now!
Eric, Rob....I called Eric this morning. But didn't get an answer. I also text Rob, I don't know if he got it. Rob your phone goes to voicemail but the box isn't set up yet apparently? I wish I could've made it, but my father in law had to get home. Next time I'll travel lighter so I can make it. I hope you guys had fun!

So much for any thought about video conferencing!

And now something to drive Rob nuts:

USE A PICKLE FORK! BFH WASTES TIME!!
USE A PICKLE FORK! BFH WASTES TIME!!
USE A PICKLE FORK! BFH WASTES TIME!!
I'm guessing you already have or will have a ball joint press by then? Couldn't believe how easy they were to take out and press in.
We plan to fit a trip to Utah and Colorado while we are here, gotta love your (almost) free gas.

Roger.
Well geez, Al - what is he going to hit the pickle fork with - his fist??

Ain't that the truth...

Okay, it's picture time...

Okay, it's picture time...
