So says my 20 year old daughter. Dent? are you kidding me? No injuries were suffered with the exceptions of my cut fingers scraped arm, sore back etc...

So begins the adventure, like I have nothing better to do on my days off. Lots and lots of spot welds to cut. I spent the whole day friday on this thing got about half way done.

She got by really cheap, as I found the door and quarter on craigs list for $70 bucks, and well dad's labor is cheap.
I will be pulling the quarter off again as it is only tacked for fitting and adjustments. Lots of finish work ahead.

Looks to me like she owes you a significant stack of cash for all that nice work. I did this same "rewarding bad behavior" repair for my gal.
She tore the other side up 5 months later and acted like it was no big deal for me to fix it again.
Have fun at the body shop, sweetheart. I'm not lifting another finger.
Women.
I'm not sure how they'd even get by without car guys to wipe their bottom when they **** the bed.
If Americans each had to build their own car before they were awarded a license, I think they'd have a lot more respect for them.

My response - "Just a dent? Dents are easy to live with, I have a few on my car! No, I don't need to go look at it. Just don't get any more, now."
While I admire the skills to do good bodywork, I would let him or her drive around with the banged up car. The embarassment would be good punishment!

First, I'm glad she's ok.
Second, and I'm going out on a limb here - she did this herself and there wasn't another car involved? What about property damage? Someone somewhere is claiming something on her insurance.
You are the epitome of a great Dad. In fact I looked up "great Dad" in the funk & wagnalls and found your picture. Also a Dad with skills. I sure hope she appreciates what you're doing. Once the repair is done I'd leave the door and partial quarter white. Let her find out how much a bodyshop will cost to paint that - as a lesson. Did she even have an autobody appraiser look at that?
Yeah, I know. She is and always will be your little girl. You'll do what you think is best. I totally respect your decisions about what to do as her father. We don't know her like you do. But, hope she's not driving your 72 while hers is in for 'repairs'.

Nice work and your a great dad. I had three boys with numerous trips to dad's garage. For better or worse we help them out that's what dads do. My dad did the same for me and his for him and son on. As I get older they are paying me back when I need some help. Its a play it forward thing

Thanks very much for sharing your bodywork skills. If you have time to add details to your repair I'm all eyes/ears.
Here's a fantastic blog done by an everyday guy on a little more invasive Mustang surgery: http://68vert.blogspot.com/ I'm probably going to end up buying the same welder he's using since it seems to be working well for him.
I'm seriously thinking about learning how to weld via nite classes after I buy a welder... We own a '96 GT Convertible that hopefully won't ever need work but somehow a '67 Mustang appeared in our driveway over the weekend & it will require a lot of love.
BTW, kudos to you & your daughter for the car arrangement. It's rare to see young people actually paying for their own vehicle these days. I'm sure she felt awful about the crash.

Well now we know the "rest of the story". I reiterate my original comment: "You are the epitome of a great Dad" Wish I had your body work skills. Sorry to hear the ins was a bust. I'd have ruled in her favor on that. I know now hard it can be to predict or judge oncoming traffic speed. She probably did what she was sure was right. Motorcycle speeding had to know the risk being taken. Sounds like your daughter is a responsible person who's not 'taking advantage' at all. She obviously knows your skills and waited till you could help her out. You and your wife did good bringing her up by the sounds of the story. Well done.
That is some nice body work. I can turn a wrench but body work is something that I would not even try. I'll bet when you are done, you would not be able to tell that anything even happened.
Guys that can do good paint and body like that are artists. Even those low-riders Chevy's that are custom and have crazy painted murals on them are art in their own right. It amazes me how someone can take a rusted out '64 Impala and turn it out like that. They are not to my personal taste but you still have to appreciate the effort and skill.
