Crazy people everywhere

The youngest was driving home yesterday, practicing for license. We come to an intersection with several firemen standing here and there in the road passing the boot to collect funds for some worthy cause I am sure. It seemed to me they were a little too much in the street, among the cars, but I am not one to complain. It just gave me an uneasy feeling. Advised the kid to proceed slowly and carefully past.

Evidently a few minutes later, some feller in a truck had an issue with one of the collectors, turned around, came back and plowed into him, and the marine/ firefighter died as a result.

I can't believe the way folks behave these days.

So sad. Over... what?

Gonna blame it on the parents Chris. Not quite as bad, but we had some kids playing football here in Marble Falls who attacked a ref. Blindsided him, 2 punks who are claiming racial slurs made from him. They weren't local boys, they were from San Antonio but it Made National news, crazy. I began wondering what the Hell happened to the US mindset after that 2nd re-election job. You know the one. I guess we'll try again Nov. 2016, God help us.

I spend alot of time just shaking my head in disbelief. The other day in Atlanta 40 + cars were broken into in a relatively small area. The mayor had to go to the judges and ask them to pay more attention to property crimes instead of just giving everyone one of these multiple arrest thugs 30 days over and over and over

The problem is a messed up justice system. If you're a piece of crap, you need to go down forever. If you stop a piece of crap from committing a crime, you need a medal, and a public endorsement that you did a good thing. If I saw someone stealing my car, and I knew I would be commended for blasting his thieving butt, I'd be more likely to do it, and we'd be less one car thief. But, nooooo, he was such a good boy, and was turning his life around, and was saving up for college....

Well, if the country is on a "winning streak" right now, in terms of unity, pride, and respect, I sure wouldn't want to see what a downward trend looks like.

Let's leave the politics out of the equation. I agree that something has happened in this country that has really changed the attitude on how we treat our fellow citizens. I'm afraid it's probably going to get worse before it gets better. I just hate to see how much worse it will get. Just look how some treat others on the internet when they disagree, not just on here but everywhere.

Man it would be easy to jump in the middle of this one. Actually I would be jumping on the right side but I will refrain. It is something about people when they have a steering wheel in their hands. I think often times decent people turn into idiots when they get in a car. That has gone on for years. Just watch merging traffic. People will get right on the bumper of the car in front of them so nobody can merge. Crazy people.

Sorry, but "blaming the parents" is the easy way to explain what you don't know.

To compound the problem and not to sound like a storybook novel. I work with that firefighters first cousin. But the truth is that when the firefighter arrived at E.R. his wife happened to be working the trauma unit and witnessed the ordeal and had to make the call on the DNR upon the third try to keep him alive! FYI the wife is 9 weeks pregnant with their first child.

And now more tragedy for the family. Upon hearing the news of the death of her son, the mother suffered a stroke and now is intensive care.

O.K. so putting a side your personal feelings on how people were raised. Please be a stand up person like Dennis was, a military man and Firefighter and donate to his GOFUNDME account.

Do you have elected judges? If you do, and they don't fry this oxygen thief for 1st degree murder, make sure they're voted out next election.

Here in the Commonwealth of Vajenya they're appointed (for life, unless they screw up bad enough to be impeached) and you get a bad one in there it is near impossible to remove them. And I have never wished for elected judges in the Commonwealth so badly in my life as I have the last two weeks.

They worry too much about social issues and the possibility of offending some "disenfranchised" group, and not enough about meting out justice.

One of the reasons it is so bad is that people won't talk about it.

Yes, much of what you see out there is learned behavior, and guess the most likely place it was learned.

As a friend of mine's wife says when she sees one of these people showing the world their idiocy: "What an idiot. His parents were probably idiots, too."

Pretty sad but all to common stories like these. The reasons are complex and simple at the same time. Hateful discourse . Vigilante ism certainly not the way to upbring the young. Adherence to the Constitution jury by peers not judges lawyers or law enforcement . Bringing others to the rank of animals knee jerk based on claim. Thats just what it is until 12 decide otherwise. Sad. Hegelian Dialectic. That force is very strong. Machiavellian . Two thoughts on state of the nation. Cloward Piven. Congressman Larry Mcdonald interview 1983 on cnn crossfire. Larry was killed in KAL 007 shootdown. Not sure why thar came to mind with so many other relevant points i could make. But it did :-(

I know how my parents raised me, and I know I've behaved in another manner - were they to blame for that? I understand the desire to simplify complicated issues, but rarely does it get to the truth.

False dichotomy. Civilized discourse and repairing the republic IS possible. Too many people are scared of getting in an argument to actually discuss anything these days. Of course, there really is no discussion any more, there's just social shaming.

Hardly false - you're comparing the discussion of a topic in one car site and another. How are they opposed again?

It usually doesn't end well.

I deduce ROP is another forum ; little slow on that up take.
I agree people are afraid to be candid less an augment ensues. And oh how I've seen the decent of social media and the very orchestrated pile on shaming for even daring to express oneself. Character traits that are group think steam roller tactics. Then we have sock puppets in nearly every board. I spent a good deal of time watching that unfold. Saw it with the rise of the Tea Party - Ron Paul supporters etc.. all attempts, often very effective, in shutting down a independent opinion that is not "liked". Personally my opinions have undergone great sea change by those that had the character and guts to show me where I may be wrong. Of course me being respectful meant allot. Digg lost many to Reedit ...then there was.. ATS .... Godlike Productions...pretty far out stuff on the net. A fishing net or a network? The internet is the creation of DARPA; for crying out loud.
Then we have the watchers. A huge datacenter in Utah .. just massive. I could say much more,; but I'll just stop there.

Huh? That is not what I said at all. What I said was that what you said was a false dichotomy, which means that you are saying that there are only two options, not talking about politics, or arguing and being hateful, like on ROP.

There is a third option, which is how the country was founded; that of civilized discourse. It is stupid to refuse to talk about things because you're afraid it will get nasty.

We are too connected. Not necessarily the cause of the original topic but an avenue for malcontents to re-enforce their obsessions/psychosis. Civil discourse is history. jmho

If you think you can elect a change in public attitude you are doomed to disappointment.
Intolerance is nothing new, from the first people to cross the Bering Straight to Columbus through Washington to the present day.
Driving a vehicle is a fine way for those not in total control of themselves to manifest their intolerance to others, with tragic consequences as in this case.

Roger.
