Even on the 30 miles of rural four-lane and backroads I travel to work, traffic is insane that time of day. These fools think nothing of passing on blind curves or hills, and there's a white Jeep who has passed me numerous times when I had left turn signal on and was starting into the left turn going into the plant. Someday he's gonna end up in the lake...

In Seattle that would be a fast commute.

chill, I agree. There's traffic. We all find ways to deal. It's just kind of funny hearing the Canadian accent so angry, I don't hear that much. Sorry.

dallas and its suburbs suck also. One of the reasons I do not even like to go for a drive, because I am sitting still most of the time. Only good drive is an all-day one out of the city. I am way overdue for one, too!

You're making it sound like that's a bad idea....(the road trip part that is) FWIW I saw what the beltway around Houston was earlier this year and it seems nuts that traffic was still whizzing around at 02:00 in the morning.

Proffesur you call that traffic. LOL! I think everyone feels they have the worst traffic. Us Vancouverites did get voted in the top 5 worst traffic in N. America. Not because we have huge volumes like L.A. but because we have very few main hiways. Caused by no were to build them. Ocean on the west side, Mountains on the north side, USA on the south side and lots of bridges. East is the only way out. I drive a service truck all day, I learned long ago to chill out , let the cheaters cheat, stop for pedestrians, drive calmly. I don't get anywhere fast but I am in a good mood when I get there.
I always tell everyone if your in a hurry and in your car you chose the wrong mode of transportation.

The traffic here in Mayberry is not bad, now around the major metro areas...that's a butt kicking.

Come on down Allan.

NYC and LA are the worst IMHO. Can't stand the traffic around here!

Jeez, that wasn't traffic.

Try camping out for a couple of hours on the BQE, on a 100° day, with a tractor-trailer's reefer blowing heat at you from one side, and a jackhammer running on the other side, and no way out, forward, or back, no shoulders, 8' lane widths between the Jersey barriers, and you're in a trench 20' below street level with no air movement whatsoever.

This guy's a lightweight.

How I wish for the wide open fast flowing freeways as shown in the clip.
Dallas morning rush?, Houston Beltway?, racetracks compared to anywhere within 30 miles of London, England. Been there, done that btw.

You should see the SB 400 at 04h00. A string of head lights as far as sleepy eyes can see. Every one wants to live out of the city (TO.) but wants a good paying job that's in the CITY. At one time you could drive on that road and be lonely, now even the deer have to wait for a police escort to cross the highway.

For the record, No I don't call that traffic. That's the wait to get to where the traffic is.

As for who's got the worst traffic ... I've driven in a lot of places ... Montreal ranks. The problems are 3 fold. Old city means poor flow. Bad distribution means that the roads that can take more capacity aren't heading where anyone wants to do. And last ... what idiot builds a major metropolitan area on a freaking island? Great idea for a defensive fortification circa 1600 ... lousy idea for commerce circa 2000. Loose one lane on a bridge and we're toast. That happened last winter. A concrete beam cracked on the Champlain bridge. That bridge was completely rebuilt not that long ago ... now they're talking having to scrap it. I won't even bother discussing how poor the road surface is ... you all recall a fellow CO member loosing two rims last year.

Almost all major cities are on islands, in archipelagos, or at least in river confluences (on both sides) or in protected areas of the seashore.

Cities that immediately come to mind:
New York - archipelago
Boston - archipelago
Philadelphia - river
Paris - island & surrounding shoreline
London - jog in river
San Francisco - large ocean cove and archipelago
Portland, Maine - archipelago

Exceptions that come to mind:
Ciudád México - built on a lake
Denver - mountains, obviously
Atlanta - railroad crossroads
LA - interdimensional portal to Hell

Yep ... total insanity. Brilliant for post medieval defense ... stupid for commerce. Why are we continuing to build up these cities in the wrong places? It's like SimCity nightmare level.

You need to visit Houston. We have virtually no traffic. Roads are wide open all day and night. Even the toll roads.....

I live 15 miles north of the city where I teach. And the school is on the north side. I have black tops, interstate, and one in-town road. It's wonderful! But it spoils me. If I have to go into town for something it drives me crazy! Why aren't I moving? I'm just sitting here at this red light thing wasting gas! Lol. But really, I'm okay with it until I discover that the reason the car in front of me is weaving and driving too slow is because the driver is texting. Then I get p&*ssed!

I hadn't thought of that. We don't know how lucky we are sometimes I suppose. When I was travelling through the Australian outback seeing another car was heavy traffic.....

I can't say about Dallas, but I drove through Houston Friday afternoon rush hour on the south/east side 610 loop from Hwy 288 to I-10 for nearly 10 years and I was always able to maintain the speed limit. Heck I was AFRAID to get into the far left lane 'cuz that was the fast lane and I didn't feel comfortable doing 70 in a 55 zone. If you drove any slower folks would run you off the road.
Now in Phoenix everyone thinks I drive like a madman on the highway in rush hour.
