I believe there exists a bevy of far over-paid CEOs, CFOs, etc. in our country who can EASILYafford to contribute $1MM each towards state/local community-based organizations to provide food for children who are now out of school, the homeless, shelters, blankets, etc. etc. to assist in this crisis. We should not be specifically looking for and/or waiting on BIG BROTHER to bail us out.
Sure they could, and there should be a request to do so. Note I said request, the USA is not (yet) socialist. No one is obligated to pay for another by law, and I would resist such a law being made.
That Johns Hopkins map got kicked in the nuts because now it only shows by state.

Apparently the map was becoming cluttered at that granularity. They reshuffled it about 4-5 days ago.

It's a nice fantasy, but we've been down this road before and that's historically NOT what happens in a deep recession, or depression. Those with disposable money use that money to buy when things are cheap. As for common middle class folks helping other folks, that's fine for a very short while. When times become uncertain and people aren't sure if they're going to have job or not, they do what they're doing now with toilet paper and bullets. They hoard what little liquid cash they have. Most Americans are so far in debt with so little savings that there is nothing to give to anyone else when the income goes away.
We must all pray that we don't go into a depression like '29 over this. The country is not strong enough to survive it this time IMO.
I feel confident that with modern technology and everyone doing their part and taking this pandemic seriously, we can get over it reasonably quickly and get back on track. What we really don't need is a bunch of people believing it's not real, or not dangerous and running around doing as they please. This kind of action will just spread it further and deeper and bring on that depression.
In the World, there are things where die alot more people than to this, which could be totally avoidable, and no one cares. Not give even a thought. Now when theres even the slightest chance that you or your relative, someone you know, might die, people are mass panicing. Thats totally bull***** and just shows how two-faced people are, only thinking their own belly-button.

Yeah maybe, I can not control the mass killings in wars, ethnic cleansing and the many other horrors in the world. I speak up against it.
I will not panic! And lose my head! But the idea of me or my family drowning from your body fulling your lungs with liquid. Just not feeling it. I self quarantine ourselves over two weeks ago. As for totally avoidable? We cannot talk about that here.
Yay. Yippee. Has that been vetted? Any numbers coming out of China are super-suspect IMO. Remember they "didn't have a problem" in December either. I really hope it's 100% accurate, but knowing their history of them being full of BS, I'm leery.
I'm not getting worked up either way on this. It's something to deal with, don't get stupid and stay alert but calm. More is being found out about how to fight this bug all the time. I heard too that some malaria vaccination may knock this toad out as well, but again, has all that reporting been vetted as well. Too much BS info out there.
There are very much two ways of thinking on this. Traditional America, which is where you control your actions, and take care of your own, and new America, where the gov and social media tell you what to do, and you use shaming language to shame other people into doing what you think, for whatever reason, they should do. It's two different mindsets. Note, this is not political, and I have deliberately made sure it wasn't.
Freedom comes with a price, and that is other people have the right to choose the wrong choices. You have the right to quarantine yourself. Me personally, I go to work, and the store, and that's about it. I would love a couple months of no work / no pay and I'd stay home, but many people are paycheck to paycheck, regardless of whether it's their fault or not, and that won't work.
I saw a good meme today: Gov: All businesses are closed, so you are not getting paid. Landlords: We're still charging rent. Me: *hands out pitchforks* You know the rules and so do I.

Luckily, I work from home, So I can quarantine. I alway question authority throughout my life. Makes interesting town meetings and my working with small government.
Yes! You can fight city hall. But you must have your wits about you! The US government is a very hard battle.
Change never happens if you don't do anything different. Allowing bars and restaurants to stay open and serve people is a bad idea in the midst of the virus outbreak. If there were vaccines for it, or other methods to reduce your risk other than that, I'm all for it. But taking a break from most group social activities is probably your best bet in reducing your risk of contracting the virus. But if you kick the status quo in the mouth, you get people's attention that it's SERIOUS and not just another flu bug. It's novel. There's no legitimate medication for it to keep you from getting it. Maybe one day there will be community immunity to it from recovered folks which may reduce the effects on its eventual return. And it likely will.
If you could keep all, or at least most, of the viruses isolated as best you can for a while, the risk of death to others goes down significantly, or at least the infection rate until ammunition can be brought up to speed to effectively fight this thing. Wash your hands, and maximize distance for now is your best bet. And for some, washing their a** may not be a bad thing either.
Might want to stay away from this site. This is on my work place home page.
That is NOT an ICANN registered site (URL). The site www.corona-virus-map.com does not exist, but thank you for bringing it to attention. I'll do a little research on this. Thanks
Actually, I take that back. The URL will not resolve but the site name is registered. I'll follow up. I suspect the site has been reported and it is being banned. It is listed as having been closed. The site was created 02/01/2020. Most likely an act of sabotage and someone or organization taking advantage of people. This really sucks. I'll follow up with more.
It's been identified. Evidently (thus far from statements in this clip) it is a APPLICATION which must be downloaded. So, don't download the app. More research.
As a follow-up. The site identified as www.corona-virus-map.com does not resolve via DNS and the site does not resolve via either IP address or FTP. Therefore, the site is not functioning as a valid Internet website capable of either host IP or DNS resolution. I have no idea how they managed to use that site name (paid someone, entity or otherwise). They may have stolen the site name, then created the appearance the site actually existed when they embedded the name on the look-alike John Hopkins official map or they're just using an already registered site name to their phishing benefits.
I suspect, however, that site will never be operative and again - thus far, it would appear that the SCAM, Malware is a program which must be downloaded. Apparently their first attempts have been to Android users and it appears they're sending out text messages (at least at this point).

Reason: Update
Sorry, Cramer is an idiot. He's part of the problem.
He did see the 2008 nightmare coming. Tried to warn the fed and Gov. Who laugh at him. He has the ear of Treasury secretary Steve Mnuchin.
Who is the only one I trust in the administration. Other than the health officials Time will tell!. Yea Muuchin did take his trophy wife to see money being printed.
I guess I would do the same, if I look like him. but I am a great looking man!

That your Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin Wife! I am not big on women shoes. My eyes never get that far down.
(Just watched Mnuchin on FOX 2 Trillion for starters, and more if needed. Not a fan of giveaways, But this is War! Or another Great Depression!)

We have been self quarantine ourselves for over three weeks. The old lady is getting a little bent out of shape. Trying to keep mentally and physically busy. Taking car rides. Utah has some of the best natural beauty anywhere!
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-51705199Cabin fever is real. Was snowed (over 5 feet)in back in 1993, I think. Back road of West Virginia. They had few snow plows. And few farmers, who would help with snow removal years before. It got real bad and the end of that relationship.
Cabin fever (also called stir-crazy, from the use of stir to mean 'prison') is a claustrophobic reaction, manifested as extreme irritability and restlessness, that takes place when a person or group ends up in an isolated or solitary location, or stuck indoors in confined quarters for an extended period of time.
If the world weren't going to end, I'd happily enjoy being at home for a month without going anywhere. My weekends are usually get some extra sleep, work on projects, and play with cars or loud stereos.
No cabin fever here. Just came back from a walk in the Ohio "sunshine." We don't get lots of sunshine in N.E. Ohio. They always say it has something to do with the Lake Erie effect and yada yada. "Nice shoes" is a inside joke to me. It's an ice breaker that I've used with success over the decades. Got to keep a sense of humor.
Sorry- **** that people are stupid!!!!!!! Government gives good orders how to behave on current situation, and still lesser ( pun intented) people are too stupid to follow them, and demand more help and guidance from government!!!!
Latest one is great, cant wait to tell this. At Lapland ( northern part of Finland, remote area minus the ski-resorts builld for tourists) they announced that they close down all ski-resorts, everything connected to tourism, on top of all public places closed down, to slow down the spread of virus, and there it might be even possible to stop somewhat spreading due to Small local population and long distances.
Now, quess what showed up on news yesterday? Due to works closing down, and all possible people transferred to do "remote work", (mostly) the richer middle-class got an idea that they all drive to north Lapland, where there are alot of cottages to rent, and owned by southern living people, to isolate themselves. Good idea- until you realise you Still need to buy food, fuel, etc. They showed traffic jams on roads leading up north. Quess were the local people happy about that? They just closed Lapland down to slow and stop the spreading, and now they Still come there? Now they are informing people at national news to NOT travel up there, since their medical system is sized to population living there, not for "double" during pandemic.
For instance, nearest breathing machine could be 5 hours drive- ONE WAY!! Not everyone is going to get carried with helicopter from their remote cottage ( my opinion is no public help for ride to hospital for people purposefully driven themselves to some remote wilderness out of help). Plus on side they carry the virus north with them, which has been so far pretty much infection free.
