Chevy pickup
I hope this is in the correct forum. Looking for input here. I'm thinking about buying a 2010 Chevy 2500HD from my father-in-law's estate. It is a Z71 extended cab with the 6.0 liter and 6 speed automatic. I have alwways owned half tons but am looking for something heavier to tow car trailer, haul my old tractors and maybe, soon, a camper. Anyone have any idea what kind of mileage to expect with the 6.0 liter commuting back and forth to work? Can you help the mileage with a tuner? Will a folding tonneau help? I live in a rural area and my commute is some city, some highway. I'm not at all concerned about the mileage it gets towing but it will have to be my daily driver. I'm sure my father-in-law never checked it in the 7000 miles he drove it before he died as it wasn't a concern to him. Thanks for any input.

My experience
When pulling a trailer with a 6.0L GM plan on SINGLE DIGIT MPG!!!!!!!!
Empty it will deliver mid teens but put it to work & you will hate it.
I owned one for 8 years & put 238,000 km (147,000 mi) on one & speak from experience.

Thats why I love my 01 Dodge so much. Loaded down with a car and 18 ft trailer I get 17 with the cruise set on 75 and still have to look back to make sure its there. I don't think I will ever own a gas motored tow rig again.
I had an 01 Silverado HD with a 6 liter and automatic. It got mid teens towing or empty. That truck rocked. Then I blew up the trans and got an 08 Silverado HD with a 6 liter and automatic.
That truck was a dog. I got no better than 11 empty and single digits towing. The 6 speed auto was a Hydramatic and no matter what speed, empty or towing, it hunted, shook, bogged, raced, continually and the dealer said it was normal. Well, they said they didn't have a service bulletin on it so they wouldn't touch it. I don't know if the Allison was any better.
Hopefully they got it straightened out by '10. At least you'd have a truck still under warranty.

Allison only comes on the Duramax and rarely ever have an issue with one.
