Car Show Today, 23 July, South St. Louis area

Hi guys,
There was a nice car show in the south St. Louis area today as a charitable event for youth sports. It was HOT, 101°, but I got there early and found a nice spot to park my car where I would have shade for my chair all day, and there was a decent breeze. The judges did a good job of moving quickly and got us out of there by 1430 which was nice. It was a Top 30 format, with no classes, and a few speciality awards. I was fortunate to crack the Top 30. Here's some.pics if you're interested.

Norm - Believe it or not, they actually did have carhops. The kids that were benefiting from the event,, were going around to every car asking if you wanted anything to drink or eat, then they'd go get it and bring it back to you. Kinda cool!

Thank you, it was a fun day with a nice turnout. Probably would have been super packed if it wasn't so darn hot out.

Dan - That is a nice looking car. I can't understand why he has that foam seal around the 3-deuces though, there is no ram induction thru the fake hood scoop. I think it would look even nicer if you you could see those 3-deuces better. JMO

If you examine the hood notice the hood's framing - the frames do not separate (box or enclose sections), air is free to move between those sections. In effect, he's isolating the air so as to induct air from the one section above the tree carbs enclosed by the foam. Road debris, grime, dust, particles would most likely be limited by capturing air from that one area. That's my guess...

Norm - I agree with what you're saying. I've just never seen anyone do that because each individual carb has it's own foam or paper element filter. I looked at the scoop and it was blocked off from any outside air getting into the engine compartment. If I ever see the car again, and I'm sure I will, I will ask the owner what his rationale is for doing it.

I understand there's no OAI scoop, but it's still getting plenty of air it's just being restricted to air at the top of the engine compartment under the lower side of the hood. Yeah, each carb has its own filter, but with the enclosed foam, I believe he's hoping to gain cleaner air than leaving them all open to the entire engine bay's air flow. I rather like the notion.

That may very well be his rationale, I've just never seen anyone do it?

I think it may no longer be a fake ram air hood. The mod to open it up is not complicated.

For everyone that has provided comments, YOU'RE WELCOME! I enjoy being able to provide pics of the shows and cruise-ins I attend, especially for the guys who do not have many going on in their respective areas.

I assumed with the foam seal to the hood, that he had the scoops opened up, with the scoops blocked off, he is really limiting the ability to get cooler, outside air to the engine.

Dan - With the hood up I could not see if there were actually holes that had been opened in the scoop. However, on the underside of the hood, I could not see any evidence of where the hood had been cut for air to transfer from the scoop, if it had been opened. Like I said, if I see the car again I'm going to ask the owner.
