Car show flyers
Car show flyers
Saw that nice 66 in another thread with a flyer on the front seat. When I got to shows, I park the car, usually windows down, and, when I come back after walking around, I have a bunch of flyers in the front seat. I guess I could leave the windows up. I think flyers in the seat ruins other peoples' pictures, but I sometimes like knowing about other shows. On the other hand, it's kind of like junk mail. I guess it's better than sticking under my wiper, which would be not acceptable.
Doesn't really bother me; I'm just making conversation here. What do you all think?

If this is the biggest thing in life that you have to worry about, then you have a very good life.
Personally, I've always liked getting the flyers. There's always upcoming shows I wasn't aware of. Plus, it's not really junk mail in the sense that it does have relevance to the event. If people are running around putting flyers in for an upcoming sale at the local hardware store, to vote for someone in an upcoming election, or something like that, that's different.

At that show where the 66 was, I was driving my Caddy convert and there were at least 5 flyers in the car when I came back to it. I even had a guy stop me on my way out to hand me one. I wonder if these shows are such an economic boon to the area they want to have more and more. I suppose you could move the flyer to take the picture. But then you're in someone's personal space. I know where they hold all the shows in my area so I really don't need them. I find flyers in my cars that are from far flung areas I wouldn't go to. That 66 was from 40 minutes away. I wouldn't drive that far to go to a show.

I've heard comments for and against, but usually the 'against' camp is in the minority. As a show participant, I like to get the notification of shows that I may not be aware of and any updated information that may be on the flyer, so I don't mind them at all.
As someone currently in the middle of organizing and advertising a large local show, the flyers are really our most direct way of communicating with the potential attendees to our event. While we can rely to a certain extent on online advertising (ie craigslist), our website and posters placed in sponsor's shops and other prominent locations there remains a significant number of car owners who don't have or want online access. This helps us get the word out to them as well.
Perhaps the "ultimate" solution would be to provide the show's organizers with enough flyers to put in everyone's registration packages...that accomplishes the advertising goal and keeps car owners happy(ier).

I dont really mind them but if I could choose I would say dont flyer me. Went to a show recently in York Pa which is about 125 miles from home. I had about 20 flyers on the front floor and and seat which I had to pick up and then trash as I couldnt do any of them... I guess its just part of the show thing, no sleep lost here.
I was recently at a local cruise night, and a guy with a nice El Camino
pulls up next to me with two teenage kids in the car with him. They all get out and one of the kids immediately jumps into a T bucket that was parked on the other side of me and starts calling his friend over to get in all the while drinking a soda. I say to the kid nice car, you know the owner, He says no is it ok if we sit in it. I told him probably not a good idea without asking and he proceeds to stand on the seat and jump out.

Im in 2 minds over this.
On one hand it is nice to know about upcoming events, but on the other it seems most are based on profit.
Nothing burns my chops more than to get a flyer for an event where they are Charging the owners crazy money to exhibit their cars so they can in turn charge the public to go and see them.
Anyone else think this?

I do find it interesting that we provide the product and pay to enter. Most shows I go to are small town events put on by people who provide the cash collected to charities. Most shows now a days are around $15-20.
I am cool with charity runs and don't mind shelling out a few bob for a good cause. These are win win for me do something good and get to talk crap with like minded people :P
Privateers making a buck out of us annoys me to the point where I am yet to go to one.
I dig the informal ones where you meet new people and check out some great cars!

When I take my car to shows it often has flyers tucked under a wiper blade. I return to the car from time to time and pick them off, check them out, put the ones that arouse my interest in the glove box and put the rest in a trash bin.
Some shows here are free for exhibitors, or a reduced entry fee, but £10 to enter the car doesn't amount to much if I'm spending £100 on gas to get there and back.
I do marshalling duties at a couple of our bigger shows, Directing the exhibitors to the showfield for a few hours is a good trade for a free 3 day camping pass!.

Not even the OCA Nationals makes spectators pay money to just wander the parking lot looking at the cars. I've done this on several occasions.
I've never been charged "crazy money" to enter my car at a local car show or cruise-in, either. I don't consider $10 or $15 to be exorbitant, and you get a goodie bag with some nonsense in it plus a chance to win some door prizes and perhaps a trophy (which someone has to pay for). It's money well spent for a fun day, and if my entry fee goes to help the local Kiwanis or Lion's Club or 4-H Club, why is that bad?

I also have gone to a zillion shows and in my area it's not uncommon for the clubs to charge $30 -45 bucks for the event ( usually a two day affair). Fact is I only know of two shows this year that were free.
As far as the flyer thing goes with a convertible if they put them on the front sear no problem but if they just drop them the back and I don't find them at about 50 miles an hour they leave the car and I'm open for a littering ticket.

I've never seen a show of more than one day unless it's something like the nationals. What do you do in all that time?
Flyers are one of the best ways to get the word out and if you tried to remember dates of certain shows you learned about while attending another show, then if you are like me you'd forget as soon as you were told. I think that they are cool and collectable especially 1st annual or from say a dragstrip that is featuring cool cars or legends of some sort.
I have a binder I keep some in. I even have the 1st Annual flyer from the BOP show Dixie Olds put on. Eventually I'd like to arrange them on one of my walls at the shop.

Environmentally unsound but entertaining!

Its the private entrepreneurs or the really popular events that close areas off and charge.
I do a lot of runs over summer with clubs and these use shopping centre carparks etc and are free ( if you exclude your membership fees)and are my preferred events.
Having said that my next run I am entered in has an entry fee. http://www.baytobirdwood.com.au/even...d-classic-2015 $60 entry add $30 if you want your car judged. The event is so popular now that it has had to be split into 2 events held Bi annually, the vintage (upto 1955) and classic (1955 - 1978) they have so many entries that it is now 'limited' to 1750 cars!
This event you get trophies, live music, entertainment and goody bags and there is a colossal amount of expense associated with organising an event so large so I am happy to pay to be part of this spectacle.
I was just curious whether other car owners ignored paid event flyers like me but liked the charity or community events.

x2. There is a large rod and custom show in downtown Dewey, OK every year in May. Hundreds of cars, vendors, and an afternoon band. Last year they started to charging just to walk down the street, didn't even advertise the charge, SURPRISE!! I'd have thought the 25-30 dollar entry fee would have been enough. Will not go again.
Fliers? I like them. I handed some out for a free show I'm helping put on this Sept.
There are shows in my area that you couldn't walk the field in one day(2000+ cars) I usually only stay for the main judging day unless the wife and I have a room near by I don't do long walks easily anymore.... Tedd
That's what I do also. All the shows I go to are 500 cars or less and all proceeds go to various charities.
