Barrett Jackson Auction
When Steve Magnante introducted the 1970 442 on Saturday night, the first time he said you can not tell if it is a 442 by the VIN. The second time he was on with the car he said that you could not tell if it was a W-30 by looking at the VIN. He was right the second time. You need paper work to confirm if it is a W machine. I was wondering if anyone else caught that? The car sold for $75000 I think. I did not see very many Oldsmobile this time.

There were only a handful of Olds' at Las Vegas. My son lives there and he and his wife went to the auction. She wanted to buy a paddle for $400 but David prevailed. He checked out the cars and was amazed that the 70 Delta Convertible went so cheap. He said it was at least a $20M car.
He said the silver 1970 W30 was just beautiful. A complete frame-off restore. It went for $82,500.
Pat, ya never know!

A friend of mine has a 1970 442 W30 Convertible that he bought for $16,000 about 10 years ago. It's in excellent shape. He's just finishing off his ground up restoration of a 1969 442 W30 4 spd Conv. They're the only 442's he owns (not counting his mint 1969 Hurst). Lots of money there I bet.

Well Don I agree that you never know what a car will bring until it's on the market. But if a really nice W30 sold for $82,500 then this local 442 convertible should be less than that, not almost double it. Yeah, I'm afraid this local person has watched too many auctions and think this car is gold plated.

I watched it for a little while on Thursday night and at the end of that session, they were auctioning a 68 Firebird that went for 13k and a beautiful red 65 Olds (Starfire - I think) and it sold for 10.5k. Nice to see some reasonably priced in the middle of all those other cars costing stupid money.

Well, you could have gotten a screaming deal on this VW MicroBus....

Okay if you say so. But I have to question what "all of the documentation" is, in that there is no universal definition as to what that is, and I'm sure that can't be a literal "all".
Of course, if you are saying that tongue-in-cheek then well put!
I take it that is what BJ said. And BJ, with disclaimers, only repeats what the seller says with no proof required and no verification done. And sellerd *do* lie about their cars there.
