Another score for the budget build...

Scored a 12 bolt posi, said to be out of a 68 Cutlass or Chevelle. Guy said he thinks 273 gears. Brand new brakes. $550. Yay!!
Gonna check #'s when I get a chance to verify. But the guy ran a hotrod/speed shop so he was probably right. If not, I'll just flip it..

If it's actually a Type "O," that is a killer deal! Way to Go!

I found numbers and codes along the pumpkin but really don't want to open it up right now or sand down the tubes unless I know exactly where to be. Somewhere along the way someone did a half assed job painting it. If anyone has a pic of where the stamps would be that might help. I believe it is a type "O"

I can't see the pic great but it looks to have a smooth cover like a Type O would.

I took some sandpaper and sanding on the axle tube and found a small "SB" of course in the last area I sanded down. Anyway, if I'm understanding what I read online that means this is a rear with 2.78 gears. (As long as nothing was changed). I will probably open it up before I eventually install it, probably put 3.73 in there anyway.

Ok, upon further inspection there are ZERO brakes. They were taken out. The wheel cylinder is all that is left. Everything else is gone! Still a good deal unless I find something bad when opening up. I propped it up and spun the drums and counted. For each full rotation of the drum, the yoke spun 2 and 3/4 times so 2.78 makes sense. I did read somewhere else about 2.73 gears so it's one of those...lol Won't matter much when I put 3.73's in there.
Is there a certain type of paint I should use when re painting this?
Also, will all of my brake hardware just swap right over?
