Another Great Actor Gone

Leslie Nielsen. One of the funniest guys I've ever seen on the big screen.

Too bad. At least nobody will be calling him Shirley now.
The thing that made him really funny is that he never did comedy before Airplane! and Naked Gun and those lines coming out of him were even funnier.
The same deal goes for Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack and Peter Graves.
BTW, Do you ever watch gladiator movies?

He will be missed. A complete riot. I recently saw the naked gun movies again, and it was funny to see OJ in there and where he ended up....the best line from that was when Priscilla was on the ladder, and Leslie says "nice beaver". Priscilla comes down off of the ladder with a stuffed beaver. I laughed, my wife punched me....hard.

He was also in the 1956 movie "Forbidden Planet". At the beginning of the movie it says "In the last decade of the 21st Century, man landed on the moon. From there he went even deeper into space..." or something like that. So, in 1956 they thought the moon landing would take place in 2090-2100 (about 140 years later) instead of 13 years later.

He also played Francis Marion (the "Swamp Fox") on the old Walt Disney shows - I don't recall if it was the Sunday night weekly shows or if those episodes were on the weekday Mickey Mouse Club shows. I just remember, as a kid, always rooting for the "Swamp Fox"!

its hard to find a truly comedic straight man and he was one of the best. he never acted goofy but would crack you up with staight lines with total seriousness. he will be missed.

Forbidden Planet (AKA Altair 4) was a great Sci-fi movie. It was one of the first DVDs I ever bought. Great special effects and even interesting music for the time. No clue in that movie that Nielsen would go on to be the funny guy.

I bet Shakespear never guessed what "The Tempest" would become hundreds of years later.
