Adventures in Shipping!

Hi All
I shipped a package to Tedd who's south of me less than 250 miles. I shipped it on March 3 priority mail with the expected arrival date of March 6th. He hasn't got it yet! The tracking history shows and interesting route. It was in Sacramento on March 4th, stayed there for three days then left there on March 7th but zipped past Tedd and I heading North to Eugene Oregon. It sat there until March 12th then headed back to Sacramento. It spent two days in Sacramento and went to Chico yesterday. Hopefully... it will find its way to Tedd soon... but I'm not going to hold my breath! Its crazy how things travel sometimes. I've actually shipped a package to Texas that arrived in two days. Obviously that one hit all the connections at the right time. Or the time I shipped a package to the Midwest, I don't remember which state now. They said it had been delivered but the member here I was shipping to said he'd been home all day and it never arrived. I started the paperwork for an insurance claim, about a week later it shows up on his porch! Where did it spend a week? Maybe in the back of the delivery truck? Who knows!

This is not unusual, delivery time I believe is indirectly proportionate based on the need of the product. The higher the need the longer it takes. I believe some packages go to the same place as single socks when they get lost in the washer or dryer.

I had a similar incident in the late 70's while living in the Ozarks of Arkansas. In this case I was waiting on nothing more than a 1st-Class USPS envelope from Illinois. The envelope took nearly three weeks to arrive. Turns out (after I reviewed the envelope address) it was marked with the two letter code AZ. Arkansas' two letter code is AR. It took the long route before finally arriving.

I live in Michigan, and I had a package from Amazon go to Minnesota, Chicago, Pennsylvania, then to Michigan, and finally to me. I can understand Chicago, a shipping hub, but the rest baffled me.

For packages, the US MAIL is very undependable.

FWIW, I have been shipping via USPS Priority Mail & Media Mail for over ten years and never had an issue of delivery... The receipts I receive from the Post Office reflect the delivery date and none of my buyers ever said they did not receive it on the date noted... I will admit, some packages have taken some strange routes, but I think that was a choice made by a postal clerk at each transfer point to assure the package was always moving to meet the deadline... In this case, It would almost seem that there was an issue with the bar code that was applied at the initial intake point (your local post office)..... But like you said "who knows"...
That being said, I hope I haven't jinked myself, I am about to ship three possibly four packages within the next week...

John, I guess I'm lucky. Everything you've shipped me has arrived just as it's supposed to, and that's cross border intl.

Allan, in the last 20 years or so I've shipped hundreds maybe even thousands of parts. The vast majority went without a hitch... but every once in a while! Another memorable time, I shipped two 1964 Cutlass post doors to a friend in Ohio through greyhound bus lines. The first door showed up in about a week and a half. Yet the second door took over 2 months to get there! Both he and I were pulling our hair out! But I've shipped lots of fenders, doors, seats, big stuff went Greyhound for much less cost than other shippers. Just once in a while something gets misplaced in the back, or maybe one of these packages was missed in the bottom of a bin and went on a road trip! Oh well!!! I don't know if I've ever had anything not show up. And only a couple items damaged in transport. I do like to use lots of packaging material, bubble wrap, foam peanuts and I've still got a bunch of old political campaign signs made out of corrugated plastic which is much stronger than cardboard.

Thanks John it is here now and you wrap and ship stuff very well. I haven't tested it yet but I ill take it no matter. Please let me know what I owe you.

Talk about lost stuff a quite few years ago I went on a hunting trip in Alaska, flew in to King Salmon airport and unloaded all our stuff off of the airliner, did a head count on all the important equipment. Gun gone. Seems my rifle went on to Japan.by itself. Lost two days twiddling my thumbs while my guide went to the bar to think....Tedd
