1970 Chrysler 300 Hurst

Hi everyone.

Just got back from my annual trip to Australia for an always excellent Chrysler show. Oddly enough this year my favorite car was an American car. Thought it might fit in here loosely.



There was a nice storyboard in front of the car at the show that told about the 300 Hurst, mentioned Linda Vaughn as Miss Golden Shifter, and even said the Chrysler wore a similar paint job to the Oldsmobile and Pontiac Hursts of the day. The white is a Chrysler color, and the gold is a Cadillac color. Don't know if the Olds and Pontiac used the Cadillac color or not. It gave no details as to how the car made it all the way over there. The car behind in the picture is a 70 Dodge Coronet R/T, that is absolutely gorgeous. The flatbed behind the cars also belongs to the same group, and it had a 20s Chevy Touring car on the back.

I tell you I couldn't take my eyes off this car all weekend. It really stood out cruising with all the Valiants and utes. My neighbors had a 300 like this when I was a kid, but I had never seen a Hurst in person, only in pictures.

I like the Chrysler and Pontiac Hurst cars also. All the Hurst cars stand out in a crowd.

AMC went a different route with the Scrambler and Rebel Machine. Cool cars also.

Those Scramblers are fast! That is the only car that out ran my 67 4 speed 442 when i was 19, and my Olds was fast. Good friend of mine, he beat me by a fenders length.
Theres a Scrambler and a Rebel Machine here in Lubbock.

Okay here is a question. Was the dual gate shifter a General Motors exclusive? This Chrysler came with two shifter options, a column shift or a regular console shift. I would have guessed, being a Hurst, that it would be available with the dual gate also, but no. It was certainly around, because it was 1970 and the dual gate was already in use. Makes me think Chrysler wasn't allowed to use it.
