how to tell if you have a good core bumper?
Hey Fellas well I have been looking for a better 69 442 core bumper, but they are like hens teeth lately, so I just dug out the "supposedly" original one from the car (when I bought the car I was told it was a 442, it is actually a cutty s) anyway, there are some dings etc and what looks like a crease that was straightend, and on the crease is a small crack where it looks like the metal got thin etc but all in all very minor ( maybe a 32nd to 3 /64ths wide and about 1-1 1/2 inches long tops) looking at it it would be easy to mig this would this still be a candidate for sending to a bumper service, it is strictly for a driver, how about the dings dents and starightening is this major?? thanks in advance
Its pretty amazing what they can do with dinged and bent bumpers...the resto/plating shop will tell you if it can be fixed....of course its best to start with the best core you can. Just make sure they warrenty satisfaction.
I dont know of any NJ shops that do good work...ya may try somewhere in PA. or look on line....you can ups the bumper to them and they will give a price...or you can go to Carlisle swap next week...there are usually a couple of bumper guys there that may even have your bumper but bring your core. Lastly you could look at Englishtown this weekend at the swap at Raceway Park...but this is a longshot.
Maybe you could send a good bumper shop some close up digital photos of your bumper before having it shipped. I figure a good shop would be able to get a good idea if they could repair a bumper from a decent quality photo.
good thoughts !!
Thanks olds 64 good thoughts, the more I think about it unless I find a reasonable core, I might be better off biting the bullet and trying to buy one from millions and zillions or brothers..
