OOOPSS, I posted dumb info here first. UPPER control arm bolts? The ones that attach to the upper control arm shafts??? You don't buy regular bolts for that. You need the bolts that have splines just below the bolt head. Those bolts get pulled into the CA mount and are held firmly by the spline. That's what also makes them such a beeatch to get out. No one sells them in local stores. Get them from Fusick or ILT. They're about 24.00 a set of 4.

Cool! Thanks for the save Al!

It's a good idea to buy new ones and not reuse old ones, right??

You probably could use them. But our buddy Rob talked me out of that. I still have my old ones if you want them. I went with new simply because of possible fatigue, and also once the splined part comes out, it's not going to hold as well as new ones. I got my new ones from ILT. Looking at the invoice right now as I type.

Part CAU04A 64-77 Cross shaft to frame bolts and nuts 8 pce set 24.00
USPS shiping Priority small box 12.40.

That was on 9/14/2011 Shipping might be less to your drop off mail box.

This pic shows the (smaller) splined upper control arm bolts and the lower (long) bolts

I only ordered the bolts/nuts. Shoulda ordered more. Look at this for shipping:

Unless you want this possibility to happen to you without warning, change them and be safe...

These bolts were used on late 60's Camaros, so it is possible you might have a source for them closer to you. I bought mine at a Camaro shop a mile from the house - Firewheelclassics.com. They are reasonable in price.

Cool!

Sounds great gentlemen, I shall definitely be changing my bolts for new ones. I suspect the candidates will be Grade 8 after all with 6 hash marks on the head?

Wow they used a big box for those 4 bolts?! Man i'd figure they'd ship them in an envelope or something?

I reused my old ones and I'm not real happy about it , not to mention I got to replace the boot or the upper ball joint if it's worn . The car is making a clunking sound again when I turn the wheel in tight spots , so I'm gonna have to regrease until I can repair it . I still have a little money I can blow on the car so maybe I'll also get those control arm bolts .

BTW Nice pic of your hand there Allen

From the AMK catalog. Much cheaper than ILT ($10 as opposed to $24 as above for a set of 4 front upper bolts - need nuts though of course), but there is a $30 min. order though. They are also very slow to ship (took two weeks to ship when I ordered directly from them - ~3 weeks total to finally receive), and about a month to receive when I ordered through a local dealer (Antique Chevrolet). But they have a lot of correkt things though.

pg18 (front upper bolts)

pg22 (front lower bolts)

Hey Bry,

I definitely hear ya, i've been saving up suspension parts for about 2 years now, got a nice set of control arms off scott, bought the bushings last christmas season from Rockauto, got some balljoints from Rockauto i really don't even know how long ago.

Anywho, now the painful installation is coming soon.... i have a feeling i'm going to get a MAW about the steering system... i hope mine is alright to last a couple months before i'll have to replace it...

Tony, don't get all excited about that. You have to place a MINIMUM 30.00 order.. They won't sell you just the CA bolts for 10.00. Also - that price is just the bolt, not including the nut.
I L T or Fusick still your best deal

But those dirty steering components will look hideous next to a shiny new suspension system...

Anything else you need from that place? Other bolts??
Certainly you can find something you need for 30.
If the other places charge 24, then get something else for the extra 12...
