Anyone recall where this broken bolt/nut thing goes? IIRC, it fell from the drivers side area when I took the core support off. thx

Looks like a welded-in nut from the battery tray to me. It shouldn't have that second jam nut on there, and that may be why the bolt broke when it was being removed (or maybe it was just rusty).

Second hole from the right on the top line of holes seems to have an empty square opening on the underside. Those "snapped in" nuts went into square holes like that.

Yes, there is a square hole there underneath. I don't recall what attached to it though. One of those thin crappy hollow front bumper braces perhaps?

No...the only brace that attaches to the radiator support is the front fender braces and they attach much further outboard of that hole I believe.

I'm with the MDchanic.....likely a battery tray attachment. Check the Assembly Manual for attachment hole locations.

Looking at the asm manual, there is a footnote that says this is a 'Pierce Nut'. I donut recall adding the regular nut though.
