1974 Cutlass Tilt Steering Column, will it fit a '72?

Another 'can't leave well enough alone' project, aside from having to modify the bracket that the shift rod has to go into, can a tilt steering column from a '74 Cutlass be fitted into a '72 Cutlass/Vista Cruiser. Thanking all in advance who have been down this road. Howie

I do not have first hand info on this, but I have been told that the 73-77 columns will interchange with the 69-72 columns, with one exception. The arm that connects to the shift/backdrive linkage at the base of the column is shaped differently. You might need to modify the rod that runs from this arm to the trans to get it to work correctly.

Joe, thanks for the information, I have seen you are a total wealth of knowledge and information to many on the forum. From rough measurements, etc, and I even have the intermediate collapsible shaft from the newer unit as well, it did look doable. This helps much, I did observe the difference in the shape/radius overall of the shift arm, it does not look to difficult to overcome. So another one in the works for the car, it can now take a number!
