okay is it just me or do I have to mount the boot retainter to the bottom side of my upper ball joint? this a moog product checked the #s twice before posting this

there is no way it will seat through the top I already drilled the holes out to 5/16

 

I gather you are going to use 5/16 grade 8 bolts instead of the supplied 1/4". Yes the boot has to be installed under the A arm.

Yes I am going with a grade 8 bolt

 

Confirming what Joe said...the original boot retainers slip through the top but not these Moog pieces.
