Frame numbers inquiry

When cleaning the left rear frame rail after gutting the suspension for replacement, I was able to better decipher the factory numbers etched into it.

The top number was 6263668 which I know corresponds to the convertible frame p/n but I don't know if the code under it refers to a build date or some other production count - numbers are spaced apart somewhat and they don't match my vin.

4 12 72 1

The protect-o-plate is dated 6/15/72 which I presume is the original sale date to it's first owner, so it could make sense I guess if this code corresponded to the frame build date.

Is there decode info anywhere to check this?

thanks

would 4 12 72 be date of the frame was manufactured? Look on the frame where the drivers door would be. There will be a number that corresponds to the last part of your vin (or is it the sequence number can't remember) on the outside vertical piece of the frame.

The "1" after the date is first shift.

Makes sense then - that would be the right time line for it.

thanks!
