steering columns
steering columns
I am trying to save a 67 cutlass out of a bone yard.
It has it's complete drivetrain with one problem...
It has no steering column. I have one from a 71
cutlass. I was wondering if any one knew if it
will bolt up to the 67 for steering purposes only.
Thanks for you time again guys, Adam.

IIRC, '67 was one of the transition years. Starting in '69, all GM vehicles used nearly-identical columns.
So the overall length, mounting, and rag joint might be different, not to mention ignition switch and turn signal switch. You might be able to jury rig something, but hopefully someone has comparative diagrams.

I have used a 68 column in a 66, so with the proper intermediate shaft, it should fit. It might be different diameter under the dash and tough to strap in; I don't know. 1967 is a one year only design, although other years can be made to fit. 67 was the first year for the collapsible shaft and column, and didn't have the pivot joint and two piece design of 68 and later.
Hi Adam
I've got a 1967 column without a wheel, but I may be able to dig something up to go there. I can either sell it to you or if you pay shipping back and forth loan it to you. I'm in Oregon so the shipping two ways may add up.
I'm not sure where Run to Rund is located, but I believe Henry is in Texas and he's got a lot of 1966-67 stuff.
I have moved cars without steering columns such as the 1968 below. It's a pain, but if you secure the steering linkage to keep the two tires pointed in the same direction it will work. John

Thanks guys.
John, my son and I are going to try strapping the 71 in
for the meantime,
but I may be getting back with you on a column.
He has a 66 cutlass that needs some sheetmetal.
If anyone needs some stuff from the 67, let me know.
I know there is some good stainless side molding pieces.
It also has the H/O 320 hp 330 with the # 4 heads.
Probably locked up though, 2-speed junkaway...
I mean jetaway...

We used the rag joint from the 71 also and was able to strap it
up, fit pretty well. Helped it had no dash in it to speak of...
Got it moved.
I'm not sure what all he wants to use, but parts will be available.
Thanks again for all the input guys, Adam.
