Remove body from frame
Remove body from frame
I just recently pulled my engine to do some overhaul work on it. I have always had issues with surface rust on my frame. the underside of the car has been sprayed with the tar like substance to stop rust but that was some time ago. it has since started coming off and its a nightmare to crawl under the car with a wire brush and disk to remove the rust. What do I have to do to take the body off the frame? what kind of lift is required to get the shell off? where do i put the lifting apparatus to pick up the cab. do stiffeners need to be put on the car body to prevent it folding up. Is this something that would be so much of a hassle and pain in the neck that i would just be better off taking it to a body shop?
Someone on here had a great thread showing how they did it with some structural lumber and a chain fall in a tree. I'm sure someone else here will remember who it was.
Not that complicated.

A lift is the easiest way, or you can jack up the body, and roll the chasis out.
The easiest way to get the undercoat off is to strip the interrior, and use some Berns-o-matic propane torches and a scraper!

Great info guys, thanks. That looks very doable in my garage which means money saved! What kind od media do you all suggest for blasting the frame. It's got the undercoating and a good bit of rust scale. I'll prob have it powder coated when its ready
