Rear bumpers that hard to get?

Hi folks. This is my first post! Seems like a very friendly forum! Thanks to those who moderate it!

I haven't had any luck finding a nice '63 Olds 88 rear bumper. A guy I talked to thru ebay says they're almost non-existent. They're all rusted. The only nice ones are on nice cars. Is this true? Any realistic repair for rusted rear bumper? Thanks - Jim

If it is not too bad can you weld in patches then have it rechromed?

The gentleman that you spoke to is correct. The 1963-64 bumpers have a poor design. To hide the fasteners, Olds welded brackets on the backside of the bumper. Unfortunately, these brackets are perfectly designed to trap mud, salt, and moisture, so nearly ALL of them have rusted out in these two locations.

If he gets the bumper redone, could he get a better hook-up welded in place
