Power Steering Box issues

Power Steering Box issues
Lately, my steering has been pulling quite severely to the left. Alignment? I thought so too, but the car was aligned just recently.
In the Shop Manual, there is a diagnosis that lays the blame on the steering box input shaft being worn, if the car has increased resistance steering away from the pull and normal resistance in the direction of the pull, which matches what the car is doing quite well.
Also, the steering fluid is heating up and losing viscosity, which may be due to either this or a slight exhaust leak.
I've checked the tire pressure, wheel bearings, and brake adjustment, and they all come out fine.
Basically, i'm asking if the steering box could be the problem in this case, and if so, how to fix it.
BTW, I drive a 1964 Jetstar 88 w/Power Steering

Do you have an excessive amount of play in the steering. I mean how far do you have to turn the wheel before the wheel begins to turn? If worm gear was worn you would have alot of play. Generally I've not seen them pull with a bad input shaft. I've witnessed valving issues with powere steering, and those result in funny noises and the wheel trying to turn itself, or little to no assist.
Where was the alignment done. What spec's did they use. Even with worn steering components, the car should generally track straight if aligned correctly.

I am betting it was an upper! If so, replace the other one as it has been stressed in a way it was not designed for. In fact just get a set and do the other side for piece of mind.
It is BAD when these break - been there got the lousy t-shirt...
