Installing new fuel line 66 442
Installing new fuel line 66 442
Any tips on installing an inline tube metal fuel line in a 66 442, frame on and no lift? Is it possible? I am having a hell of a time trying to get it over the rear hump and without bending or breaking that one piece line? Any tricks tips? Someone before I bought this project took the fuel lines out, put new body bushings on it years back without replacing the fuel lines first. Now my concern is do I have to lift this body up somehow and take a chance on more cage nut problems or is there a way to do it with body on? I thought maybe cut it in two pieces and use compression fittings to reattach? I don’t know. Any ideas?

Hi Andy,
I'm not sure if the '66 is trickier than a '69 but I've replaced both fuel lines (sender and return) on my 442 without having to lift the body. It ain't easy but it can be done. What worked for me was feeding the line through the rear passenger wheel well. Put the car on jackstands and remove the wheel. There should be a small (~1") gap between the frame and the inner wheelhouse sheet metal. Feed the line(s) through that gap. My lines are stainless and I did have to bend them slightly at one point to get them in but I didn't have to cut anything and the bending was minimal.
Good luck.

yep, I cut it and spliced it right by the rear frame hump goes up. If I had a lift and a person helping I may have been able to do it in one piece, but I have neither. Interestingly the 65 442 factory fuel line was cut and sliced where I did mine. So it worked out great.
in talking to Curt Anderson at the nationals this summer I was telling him how I had to cut my fuel line to get it in because the car was still in the frame and where I cut it and he said that’s interesting because in 65 they came two pieces like that they were pre-cut basically exactly where I cut them.
