Functional 67 442 Louvers

Yes, it can be done and has been done. It requires carefully cutting out the panel underneath, and welding a brace between the two rows of louvers. I am having it done to my hood, and I would be happy to provide you with any additional information, pics that you might need. My rationale for doing it is 3 fold. (1) it allows more air into the engine compartment, (2) it allows engine heat to escape, and (3) IMO, it looks better!

Thank you for the compliments! I finished a 2 yr. restoration on this car in June. The motor is a N.O.S. stock 455 short block bored to 4.129 and fitted with CP custom pistons, Eagle forged H beam rods, Velasco crank, Comp cams mechanical cam with 568 lift, solid lifters, Miloden 7 qt.pan, Mellings blueprinted high volume oil pump, MSD pro billet mechanical advance distributor, MSD 6AL ignition box and wires, L69 intake manifold ceramic coated with 3 Rochester 2G carbs. Center carbs are jetted to71s and outside carbs are jetted to 73. Edelbrock aluminum heads that have been polished and ported. Doug Thorley ceramic coated headers going to 3 inch stainless steel Magnaflow exhaust. Edelbrock 160gph electric fuel pump connected to a Edelbrock fuel regulator turned down to 4.5psi. Pro race billet dampner and Pro race 9 sprocket timing chain, billet pulleys from Ram Air, custom billet power steering bracket, 4 core aluminum radiator with twin Spal fans, Offenhaueser valve covers,Lakewood bellhousing mated to a Autogear M22 4 speed, Rear end is a 12 bolt with a 3.90 posi.

Thank you for your feedback. You may not remember, but you have provided good advise to me in the past, over on ROP. I wanted to create a unique look, since tripowers were banned by GM in 67 with the exception of the 427/435hp corvette. From a performance standpoint, I probably should have used a Victor manifold, but then I wouldn't have been able to use the stock hood. Besides, there's nothing that compares to the sound of a tripower at WOT!

I am really looking forward to seeing this ! How about more pics of your car ? Could you possibly give me a measurement of those louvers ?
I am wanting a differant look for my 65 hood . And thought that would look fitting if I can find someplace to do bigger louvers ?

As far as I know there are no local firms doing louvers. The 67 louvers are approximately 7 inches wide with two rows of 12. I don't believe any one out there has the dies necessary to do 7 inch louvers. One thing you might consider is finding a 67 hood that is shot and cutting out the louvers and grafting them to your hood. Here is a side profile of my car
