I have a glasstech hood on my 71 Cutlass and used the lighter springs. They have always kept hood up fine unless I would do something stupid like moving car a few feet with hood up or something. I cant remember them being gold or any color... Maybe you could try the original ones and see. I don't remember any Cutlasses back in the day being really hard to close, as in hard enough to bend a hood (or break a glass hood) unless the hinges were rusted or bent as a car in the boneyard would be. Maybe you could try one light and one standard spring?? Let us know what you find.

Years ago, I had a bolt on glass hood on a 71. I can't remember the brand but it was an all glass repop not one with a metal lower structure. I ran stock 66 chevelle hood springs on it as those hoods weigh about the same as the repop 71 W25 hood I was running.

I think I have a pair of lightweight springs that wouldn’t hold my hood up, at least not after I lubed the hinge pivots! I used stock springs for over 20 years with all fiberglass repop that came from Year One, circa 1999, can’t vouch for the brand. They are “as new,” you can have them for whatever shipping costs, if I can find them! PM me if your lookin to gamble.
