Correct Steering Column?

After working on my car for a year now I just noticed on the steering column it has a shifter arm for column shift. This is a floor shift TH-400 71 442. Did someone change this at one time?

OK Highwayman has set me straight Excuse the ring and panic!

Cars from 69 up have a locking steering column and floor shift cars have a link from the transmission to turn the column to the lock position. Park in auto cars and reverse in manual shift cars.

An afterthought, you might find the backup lights switch on the column and need the link to operate those.

Got it! Someone else removed all of this and I didn't realize that linkage is on the auto as well. Understand now. I need to read the AM more closely.

Right again! It's all there in the book. Makes total sense. (236)
