Boxed Control Arms

Boxed Control Arms
I'm looking at adding the boxed lower control (or rear trailing) arms on my '71 SX. I'd appreciate any advice on who has the best price for these, or thoughts on adding the plates to the stock arms, versus buying the re-pops. I do know I want to go with the rubber bushings instead of the polyurethane.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

check parts place for low prices
I had to replace my stock unboxed arms (one was bent) I paid about $200 for boxed arms w poly bushings IDK but rubber may be less
to replace bushings and get the lowerpart to box them is maybe $100 (you do the work) then you have to weld it in or bring it somewhere for maybe another $100 or so

I heard polyurethane lasts longer, but I prefer rubber for ease of installation and ride characteristics. By the time I buy the plates, get them welded, painted and install new bushings, I might as well just go with the re-pops. It looks like OPGI has the best price if I go this route.

I installed control arms from UMI summit racing sells them and ships them cheaper than the actual UMI web site , made in the USA and you can choose powder coated red or black with Poly bushings

I have a 71 SX and it did not come with the boxed arms and rear sway bar. Everything was an option back then including the FE2 suspension option on an SX. I also added the thicker front bar and it all helped the handling and of course the looks from the rear.

Since I do not have a welder or sandblaster, it was more cost efficient to replace them with repop arms ready to install. I could not believe they actually fit well! I got them at Muscle Factory Chevelle.
I had to factor in the cost of:
-4 new bushings
-the steel box plates
-someone to weld them in
-Sandblasting service
-paint
-PIA of removal and installing the bushings.
If you can weld and blast and have some time, you might be better off reusing your old ones.

I'll definitely take a look at the leverfamily and Muscle Chevelle sites. My '71 SX was a late build (9/71) and didn't come with many extras. I found the rear sway bar on another Cutlass at DVAP, and wanted to get the correct trailing arms to complete the installation. Many thanks for all your tips and suggestions, that's why this site is the best one on the web!

I have a 66 442 with a 455 engine. My question is about the rear sway bar. It wasn't on the car when I purchased it, but looking at the control arms one could see it was there before. I purchased a sway bar off of a 66 convertable BUT it's to narrow ( by about 2") to fit on my car and it doesn't clear the rearend. I don't know anything about the car. ( the previous owner died in 2011) The rearend has a chrome plate on it with 10 bolts. The control arms are boxed, is there a way to identify the rearend and are there other sway bars that are wider for this application. I measured from the rear hole (inside to inside) across to the other side and it's approximately 42.25, the outside dimensions on the narrow sway bar is approximately 40.25. Can anyone help me? (The deceased former owner was a member on this site)
