A Body Engine Mount Brackets

I am changing out my engine mount brackets on my 69 Cutlass as part of my 350 to 455 swap. The brackets I removed had the bolts going in from the top (bracket side) with the washers and nuts on the frame side. However, my factory service manual shows the bolts installing through the back side of the frame first. Not sure which is correct, but it appears that if I follow the manual the rubber mount will hit the bolt. Maybe, I'm reading the manual incorrectly, but it looks clear.

Thanks

There is no need to change the brackets to go to a 455. Read this thread and it will tell you which engine mounts to use. It also does not matter whether the bolts go in from the top or the bottom. Its a royal pain in the a$$ either way.

I agree with Eric. But if your trying to match the factory for judging at a car show the bolts should come from underneath, with the nut and washer on the engine side of the cross member. There should be three bolts, two at the top sides and one at the bottom. There shouldn't be any conflict with the rubber mount. If your still struggling with this can you post pictures?
