'73 Delta 88 Royale convertible need help/advice with top

I purchased this car mid June this year. It had been garaged for about 10 years. It is a running/driving car. The convertible top is shredded, new material to be installed mid October. Local top guy doing that part.

My part is to make sure the mechanism works. Both actuator cables were broken, probably original equipment. With a lot of grunting I got the new actuator cables installed. Top motor works.

The problem is the top only goes up about 1/3 then binds and stops. I spent several hours poking, looking, prodding and find nothing that looks like it bound up.

What am I missing and how do I cure it????? Help me, help me. I am in Oregon and currently we have sun, but that isn't going to last.

I was just in your area at the beginning of August. Spent three nights in Coos Bay touring around the coast and Crater Lake. Very beautiful area.

This is definitely a nice place! We fish a lot out of Coos Bay. You must have come through Roseburg enroute to Crater Lake. Coos Bay is about 1 1/4 hours to my west and Crater Lake about 2 hours to the east.

I'm sure we did pass through Roseburg on our way to Crater Lake. On our way back, went south through Medford and Grants Pass, having dinner in the latter before making our way back to Coos Bay that day.

Hard to say for sure, but my first guess would be that the bushings are too loose and/or the cables aren't installed correctly.

There is a company that sells kits with all the bushings on eBay for about $60.

As for the cables, routing is identical to the '71 Fisher Folding Top Manual. As for the bushings, I will take a look this evening when the temperature drops to sub solar.

Thanks for the response.

Probably not in the near future, but we'll keep it in mind. Thanks.

If you're using the FBM, then you're on the right track.

Note the elaborate set-up and adjustment details for the frame, and if all is well, and it's not binding, then I really have no idea.

The bushings on the driver's side are in poor shape, the ones one the passenger side are so/so. I have ordered a replacement kit on line. Looking forward to resolving the problem. Not looking forward to doing the repair work. ha ha ha

Thanks for the tip.

Glad to help. I'm not an expert on these, but I have had some annoying interactions with them.
