I'm putting together a 72 vert 350 Auto with AC as a 442 and am interested in finding the original specs for the FE2 coil springs. I don't have the assembly so I don't know if the data exists there or not. I've combed this forum and sorted through many posts regarding springs as well as talked to a few suppliers for springs, Moog sites etc. and can't seem to find specifically what would have come on this spec of vehicle. Does this data exist anywhere?

I would like the car's ride height to be slighter lower (as per the Service Manual for FE2) than stock supreme. A lot of people seem to have chosen between Moog 5536 and 5450 for the front. I think that I'm leaning towards the 5536 as the installed height (11.0) seems like it would be closer to factory versus the 5450 HD spring Installed height of 12.0. Any input/recommendation? Again, looking for slightly lower "442" stance and firmer ride than stock supreme but not too harsh.

For the rear I've seen different posts/thoughts about spring rates for442/ FE2 varying from 122 to 167. Looking at the Spring charts and application, it seems as though choices range from Moog 6321...119# 8.5" Installed height, 5379...122# 8.5" Installed and 5413 HD spring 167# 8.5" Installed height. I'm a little less certain about best choice here and some of the information seems conflicting.. I've read here about the possibility of the 167# rear spring being for a MT and maybe a bit harsh. The 6321 spring is listed as a 350 442 spring as the 5413 is listed as a 455 442 HD spring. Bothe are listed as Installed height of 8.5". I would think that the HD spring would be higher at 9?

Any input on factory specs as well as your experience with stance and ride quality/handling using the above mentioned Moog options for front and rear would be great appreciated.

The rear of a '72 Supreme should sit slightly below parallel just like a 442. Cargo Coil 501s are what I have on the rear of all three of my 70-72 factory 455 cars and their stances are right on - they're a '72 442, a '70 SX convertible and a '72 455/M20 Supreme. Fronts are a different story when it comes to engine size, A/C, etc. as you are finding out.

I have the Moog 5536 springs on the front of my car and what I think are Moog 5409 equivalents on the rear (bought them from PST for a "442" application.

The 5536 are firmer than the original springs but still maintain a smooth ride so it still feels "stock". I opted for them for the same installed ride height reasons as you and I am very pleased with them.

If you do a search for my username and 5536 you should get a few hits on my posts with spring specs and pictures of how my car sits. Joe has pointed out that the rear is higher than typical, and I think I agree with him now. Perhaps the actual Moog 5409 springs would correct this, so I may try it sometime soon.

Is the ride height dead on to the service manual specs? The installed height is shown as 7.5", which is lower than other specified 442 springs at 8.0". Also, how is the ride and handling with the cc501s? The specs show the rate of 175#. A little higher than again specified. They are variable rate. Not sure if that means that start at 175# and go up or do they start softer and end up at 175?? I think I'm going to measure the installed height of my somewhat sagged stock springs versus where it currently sits to assess ride hgt vs. spring installed hgt.
