I am welding new horns onto a 1967 el camino frame. After tons of research I was told that a 67 camino frame would fit except the rear frame would need to be shortened. Well that was totally wrong. I 1967 el camino frame is the same frame except for the front 18 inches of the frame. The cutlass fram horn turn out while the 67 camino frame are straight and shorter.

Well anyway, I have cut the horns off the old cutalll frame and cut the horns in the exact palce on the new camino frame and nowe need the measurements so the new horns are correct in the height to ground position. I have the side to side locations correct, and believe the height from ground are correct but want to be sure.

I understand that there is a spec sheet available that is used for frame machines. Please help.

The outer surfaces of the frame horns are 40" +/- 1/8" apart.
The tops of the horns are 10.4" above the bottom surface of the C channel running lengthwise under the doors.

 

By the way, the El camino frame being a 67 probably uses rear coils with pigtail ends. 66 frames use rear coils with tangential ends at the tops. The Elco frame is boxed like a convertible frame and is usually a Pontiac mfg. frame, whereas Olds used A.O. Smith frames for convertibles. Function is the same but you can see differences. for example, the front lower A arm brackets are welded onto Pontiac frames and formed into Smith frames. There is a triangular piece welded to the front of the crossmember under the engine on Pontiacs and formed into Smiths.

 

Out of all the 64-67 GM "A" body frames 66-67 f85/Cutlass was the only one that used the wider frame horn spacing. It was wider to accept the crossflow radiator as opposed to the downflow radiator used in 64-65.

Thanks for the information. Basically running a level from the bottom of the boxed frame to the front should be 10.4 from top of horns to bottom of frame? Just wanted to check - very important to get this correct.

Does anyone have a spec sheet for this frame?

I am currently replacing the trunk pans, inner fenders on rear and the lower drivers quarter panel. Rest of this car is in great shape. Doing a total body off - been working on it for 3 years.

Any feedback or imput welcome and appreciated.
