I have a question? does it make a difference what gas cap I use on my 442? (vented or non-vented)

 

I can't speak to whether or not your fuel system is entirely OEM stock, but the type of fuel cap which was installed OEM on the vehicle should be indicated in your 1967 CSM (Fuel and Exhaust System). My 1971 CSM demonstrates not only a picture of the positive two-step pressure vacuum type filler cap but two paragraphs describing its usage (pg 8-3).

 

67s were stock vented.

 

I am pretty sure the 67 caps were non vented as there are vent hoses coming out of the rear of the tank.

 

So if you use a vented cap with a vented tank is that bad? Is there such a thing as too much venting?

 

My common sense answer is no there is not too much venting but the location of the fill neck behind the license plate could allow spillage if the tank was full and jack-rabbit starts were had... At times though common sense with me is lacking.

They consider those to be enough venting?

 

Good point. I've ranted elsewhere on CO about how dumb I think that design is.
