1949 Olds 98 Rear Fenders

I am restoring a '49 Olds 98 convertible. The 98 for this year has bolt-on rear fenders and I'm thinking of welding them on and making them seamless.
These cars are now very rare and 98's are easily identified by the seamed fenders. I also have a '49 coupe 76 and I like the smooth look. This 98 is going to be a restomod as it has a Chevy drivetrain. The door handles have been shaved and the deck and hood ornaments removed, so the original look is gone.
My question is whether I should leave these fenders as bolt-ons for any mechanical or maintenance reason?
Any inputs appreciated.
Thanks.
Bob
