I love my 72 Cutlass Supreme restomod. It has the beefed up engine (just a 350 but backs a huge punch), mean stance, sound system, posi rear end, and exhaust that can scare small children. It really has everything I've wanted in a muscle car.

However, after enjoying it for a while, I'm getting drawn back into originality and the 68 body style. I used to have a 68 Cutlass S convertible and just loved how the grill, bumpers, and interior looked. Since my garage (and wife) won't allow owning two cars, I'm thinking about getting back in the market on a search for a 68 442 coupe (the car that originally attracted me to Oldsmobiles) by selling my car.

I've seen 68 442s range all over the place and some in really good shape (from what I could tell) in the 10-15k range.

What do you think fair prices for them are? I don't want trailer queens. My main criteria is always just mechanically sound (good engine and transmission).

 

I would think you would be hard pressed to pick up a pretty nice #'s matching driver for less than 15k. Minus the #'s matching drivetrain probably 11k is doable. This is for a nice 20 footer not a perfect paint, perfect chrome car. For a nice "hood up" at the local cruise in, newer paint, nice chrome #'s car I would say closer to 25k. JMO from what I have seen.

 

I was pretty much thinking what you stated was about right. I not too concerned about the numbers matching part, just as long as the engine works. I'll probably just keep my eyes open and see what comes up. Thanks

 

My numbers matching 4speed car running /driving but needing everything brought $11,500 early this year and sold pretty quick.

 

Wow, I know it was a solid car but you did really well. The fact is that solid, numbers matching projects will bring good money. That car was the best 68 "project car" that was out there at the time. I will NEVER buy a rust belt car again to restore.
