Wanted to buy 71 to 76 olds 98 low mileage original
As noted in the title i am looking for a 1971 thru 1976 Oldsmobile 98. Car must be original and have very low mileage (under 50,000 preferred ) Also must have cruise control, air conditioning and tilt wheel plus all the extra goodies standard on a 98. Open to all colors except green or silver. Please let me know what you have, thanks to all who respond.
Greg, are you only interested in a coupe? I ask because I plan on selling my 71 98 Luxury Sedan before too long. It doesn't meet most of your criteria though...
90k+ miles on the body, no cruise, no AC but it does have a tilt steering wheel. Of course, I have a rebuilt 455 and TH 400 in it I planned to remove before the sale that have less than 5k miles (I do have receipts). Check out my album:

Actually, none of these things were standard equipment on a 98 during those years. Standard equipment, even as late as 1976, included only power steering and brakes, automatic transmission, clock, inside hood release, glovebox light, fold-down center armrest, front ashtray, and power driver's seat. Power windows, power locks, A/C, cruise, tilt wheel, and all the rest were options, even on a high-end car like the 98.

Interesting. The glove box light in my Olds is also non-operational. You can't find an OE switch for it that works. I would have to use an aftermarket switch to get it to work. I've just never gotten around to repairing it.
How so? Yes, the paint is faded, but the car is almost 50 years old. A good washing will probably improve its looks greatly, and a good buffing will probably bring the paint back nicely. Otherwise, from what we can see, it looks pretty solid. The lines are straight. All the body panels line up. The bumpers look pretty good. I think that's a vinyl top, and I don't see any bubbling or rust around the edges. The interior looks clean and unworn. White over red is a great color combination, it's a four-door hardtop, which is a great body style, and the mileage is just what you're looking for. Yes, there does seem to be some damage on the left side of the car around the left end of the rear bumper, but that can be repaired, and the car is only $3500. Heck, I'm beginning to talk myself into this car!
And you know it was well cared for because it has one of those period-correct bug deflectors on the front, and only people over the age of 50 ever put one of those on their car.
Wow, another beauty, and, interestingly, the same color combination and the same body style as the '71 above. Wish he had a few more photos of it.
Under 50,000 miles, so it checks another box for the OP. But at $12,000, it's almost four time as much as the '71, and, being in Connecticut, it's considerably farther away. But you often have to search nationwide in a situation like this.
Mr. OP (w31man), please keep us informed as you do your search. We're enjoying it as much as you are, and we're not even the one buying the car!
many times buying a cheaper car that needs is more expensive than paying up for a nice example from the start.interior looks like velour to me,not leather.those boats are a pleasure to drive.
That is a sharp car, and it's not a color combination you see very often. I like the sort of purple dash in combination with the white seats and white exterior. Very sharp indeed. Too bad he couldn't find a non-rainy day to take the photos.
Thanks for the heads up on the 98 i will reach out to him hopefully he has better pics of it. Interesting color combo it’s the second one I’ve seen like that I’m the last couple weeks, there is one on eBay right now too
It is very similar. Mileage is claimed to be only 43,000, but I wonder about that. To me, it looks just used enough that the mileage could be 143,000. In the listing, they don't mention the mileage at all, and you'd think they'd be shouting it from the rooftops if they knew for sure it was only 43,000. They admit that the car has been repainted, has had the carpet replaced, and has had the dashpad replaced. I wouldn't expect the latter two on a car with under 50,000 miles.
Also, they're asking $15K (seller is a dealer, after all), which is exactly double what they're asking for the craigslist car.

Yes the replacing of the dash and the carpet concerned me as well!
IMHO, the wheel covers on the Ebay car are ugly. I like the knock-off rims on the CL car.
FWIW, my dad; Oldsguy, owned a 76 98 Regency coupe years ago. It was white with a red vinyl top and a red cloth interior. It was an amazing Oldsmobile, even with smog heads and low compression.
If you haven't found a car yet, here's a nice '76 with only 9,000 miles on it. He wants at least $10K for it, but you never know how firm that is until you make an offer.
It has the options you want (air-conditioning, tilt wheel, cruise-control). It also appears to have power windows (and probably power locks), AM/FM stereo radio, remote control driver's mirror, and rear defogger.
I love the color combination, and I hate ads where they capitalize every word.

Yes i have looked at this one and have had several talks with him also, this would be the second time he has run this on ebay. It is a beautiful color combo and all the right options but when i look at the pictures and the video the inside of the trunk and doors look way more faded than the outside of the car (a good friend caught that for me} and makes me think that mileage may be rolled. I could be wrong it could be legit but surprised a car with that low of mileage couldn't bring more that $9300

Fading comes more with time. I think the engine compartment looks way too clean for over 100,000 miles. Have you seen the car in person, or did your friend determine this fading from photos?
I'm sorry, but the interior here looks drop-dead gorgeous. I don't know what more you could want.

Mileage alone doesn't determine value. As nice as this car is, demand for them is very limited compared to the Cutlasses and 442s. If the seller got an offer of $9000 for the car, he should have taken it.
In looking back through this thread, it seems that you have been presented with several decent cars with this blue one perhaps the most decent yet, yet you haven't pulled the trigger on any of them and always seem to be able to find something to queer the deal. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. You're talking about cars that are approaching 50 years old. None will be perfect.
You can tell that 76 hasn't rolled over 100k miles because the brake and accelerator pedals are in like new condition. I suppose the owner could have replaced the pads but considering everything else that Jaunty mentioned...
FWIW, I will post my 71 for sale soon (shameless advertising).
It isn't just the pedals. Everything is in like-new condition.
I agree. W31man should check that one out!
It's in better condition than the 76 98 my dad owned 20 years ago. Oldsguy bought his in MO or KS so it had a bit of rust in the lower quarter panels. By the time he sold it the rust went from surface rust to cancer. The blue 76 98 does have the base interior though. Oldsguy's had the pillow velour interior that must have been available as an upgrade. I also notice the blue one doesn't have ACR. A neat historical option but I imagine it would be near deadly in the event of a collision!
